We know that the PM was going on holidays in Costa Rico and I can't think of any other CF flights going to Costa Rico at the same time, let alone one that stayed there for two weeks.

Flights cast cloud over PM's Costa Rica vacation
Bryan Passifiume January 6, 2020
https://torontosun.com/news/national/streams-of-flights-cast-cloud-over-pms-costa-rica-vacation

<snip>

Questions soon arose after publicly-available data showed four subsequent flights by two separate RCAF Challengers between Ottawa and Costa Rica during their vacation.

Trudeau’s plane - registration number 144618, operating under the callsign CANFORCE ONE - departed Ottawa Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. for Juan Santamaría International Airport, just outside of the Costa Rican capital of San Jose.

That was followed two days later by a second RCAF Challenger - registration number 144614 - leaving Ottawa Dec. 22 as CANFORCE 3772, landing in San Jose several hours later.

The same day, the first plane departed San Jose at 4 p.m. and landed in Ottawa at 10 p.m. - also operating as CANFORCE 3772.

At 8:15 a.m. on Dec. 29, the first jet again left Ottawa as CANFORCE 3770, while the other  departed San Jose hours later as CANFORCE 3771, landing in Ottawa at midnight.

<snip>

Speaking strictly on background, a PMO spokesman told the Toronto Sun the flights were the result of “operating procedures of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP,” and passengers did not include family members or government officials.

Military flight manifests from this most recent trip are unavailable, but those from previous years obtained by the Sun show passengers included Trudeau’s close family members.

<snip>

The article then catalogues a few of Trudeau's other trips, and discusses a few other world leaders who flew/fly on commercial flights. One wonders why similar security requirements did/do not apply to them.

One also wonders why "flight manifests from this most recent trip are unavailable", and why, if he was aboard a returning Challenger, the Canforce 1 callsign was not used for that aircraft.

That's a pretty crappy way for some people to start off their return to work after some time off for Xmas. Not really surprised the manifests are unavailable for immediate press release if the ask went in around the Xmas/new years break.

Not sure why this is getting any real traction as a story; not a big fan, but everyone deserves a bit of time off with their family, and once you include the security/entourage people, the Challenger is probably the cheapest option, that also gives them the most flexibility if something happens and he needs to get back in a hurry. We have them, so may as well use them. Costs for pilots, maintenance etc are already sunk, and the pilots need air time to stay current, so this is kind of dumb nickle and dime stuff to distract from major issues with things that cost us tens/hundreds of millions (or more).

With hundreds of MPs and staff, Parliament probably burns through that much on a coffee break, so if a reporter is bored and wants to focus on waste, maybe consider how much is spent for every hour they spend taunting each other in the House like children so they can get their 15 second soundbite in for the nightly news, rather then actually getting something accomplished. Legislation dies on the floor every session, while they mess about like a bunch of spoiled idiots.

I am no fan of Trudeau but anyone throwing shade about his vacation better be damn sure they don't take any vacations.  Otherwise you're a hypocrite.

Saw this about that,

Want to thank my American friends for showing us how fortunate we Canadians are when our leader trends on Twitter for something so insignificant as growing a beard.

Probably just something subliminal with all the Iran news on TV...but first thing that came to my mind when I saw the picture with the salt & pepper beard was Soleimani.

There may be no story here whatsoever, of course, but this latest escapade does appear to have a lot in common with the Aga Khan fiasco. One would think that certain people would have learned lessons about the perils of cover-ups perceived cover-ups information vacuums.

New Costa Rica photos raise questions about Trudeau’s vacation spending

Nico Johnson,  24 hours ago  2 min read (The "2 min read" warning amuses me greatly)

Photos of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on his vacation in Costa Rica are showing up on social media, leading to questions on the cost and carbon footprint of his vacation.

Photos over the past few days have popped up on social media, triggering questions over the cost of Trudeau’s vacation to the taxpayer.

<snip>

One question of contention, however, is how the prime minister got to Santa Theresa, which is a five hour drive and one ferry ride away from the Capital City, San Jose.

Model and actress Theresa Longo, who was in Santa Theresa at the time, told The Post Millennial that she saw Trudeau arrive in a “grey government looking plane and a couple helicopters.”

If Trudeau did indeed need three separate aircrafts for what would have otherwise been a five hour car journey, then the prime minister may face criticism for his taxpayer-funded opulence, as he did when he went on the trip to the Aga Khan’s private island for Christmas in 2016.

Longo stated that she would “find it hard to believe he would cross on the local ferry,” which is necessary if Trudeau were not to take air travel.

Over the past few days, Trudeau has been criticized for spending large sums of taxpayer money for non-governmental business, as well as for having a large carbon footprint for taking the trip down south. In comparison, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was photographed coming back from his vacation in economy class.

<snip>

Scrolling down further from the article above, one finds (also available directly at https://www.thepostmillennial.com/trudeau-celebrates-new-year-in-luxury-as-middle-class-struggles/) the following let-them-eat-cake tweet:

Trudeau celebrates New Year in luxury as middle class struggles

Jason Unrau 2019-12-31

<snip>

According to the PM’s New Year’s Eve itinerary, he will ring in 2020 at this tropical locale while middle class Canadians suffer through another winter, and now pay the Liberals’ carbon tax for the privilege of heating their homes.

"To everyone in Ontario and Quebec affected by the #icestorm today, please stay safe and listen to your local authorities. Thanks to all the crews who are working hard to keep roads clear and help people through the storm."
