Paternity Leave and PER's

I took Paternity leave during the fiscal 2014/15 year from the start of April until mid-November. Upon returning to work I resumed my duties I have assumed previously for a period of 4.5 months during this fiscal year. I received my PER this week for the previous year and it was a near copy of my previous PER (I actually went down in many areas) and my Sgt indicated he felt I can't progress because I was off for 7.5 months on parental, this despite during my time back at work receiving multiple letters of commendation from my unit and adding on many additional responsibilities I hadn't done before.

I plan on filing a grievance on the matter, would anyone have any insight into the specific policies I should be looking into and further steps I should be taking?

PER's are discussed here.

I would suggest addressing your concerns to the next level in your COfC and seeing if it can't be resolved outside of a formal grievance process.

Bear in mind, a previous years scoring/PER does not correlate to this years.  I wonder just how many letters of commendation your unit pumps out if you were there for 4.5 months and received multiples.

See the CFPAS Manual - Chapter 1 - Art 119 for information concerning both a Non-Grievance Request (informal resolution) and a Grievance Request.

That's about all you can do.  Either way, it will be your responsibility to not just refute the scoring but to also "substantiate" beyond any doubt what you feel you should have received for each AF that you wish to challenge.  It could have been worse, they could have opted to issue you with a PERX, in which case it results in an averaging of your last two PERs on file.

Good luck!

Good luck!

Will result in an averaging of 2 years across three.
