To the Canadians’ chagrin, the UN usually called out a private Swiss air ambulance service that it had hired. Even when the Canadians were asked for help, it could take hours to get all the necessary administrative approvals from the UN.This made a mockery of the military medicine term, “the golden hour”. The term means that about 60 minutes is the maximum amount of time to get a patient to hospital to have a chance to save his or her life.

I'm super surprised to hear this.

Now seems Donald Trump wants to downsize US' efforts in Africa, with probably negative effects for France's combat Op BARKHANE in Sahel--a post:

Looks Like Trump Moving to Lessen US Support for France's Anti-Jihadi Op BARKHANE in Sahel

Me too.  Being that we were there as part of the UN mission, it surprises me the crews had to wait up to 5hrs to get the UN's permission to assist UN peacekeepers.  Unreal.

See at the "UPDATE" at the bottom of the post at the link below what the UK, Denmark and Estonia (all stalwarts in Afghanistan too) are doing to help France's combat Op Barkhane in the Sahel--deployments that Justin Trudeau's gov't would not even consider:

The French will sort this out rather quickly, I would suggest.

My guess and that's all it is, is that France is most of the problem and not any part of the solution to the multiple problems in North West Africa.

Pacte Coloniale.  The resources in the former French colonies belong to France, they own them.  The message has been sent to others many times:

"If you try and harm our interests, expect consequences"

There's a reason it's called the French Foreign Legion, and not the French Domestic Legion :)

I know these clips above aren't related to Mali.

But there was discussion further up in the thread about participating in UN operations in Mali.

I thought I would post these as the Portugese seem to have found a nice balance between supporting UN operations, and actually being useful.
