The Canadian made SMG C1 was all we ever carried as MSE Ops.

I never did, but you could mount a C1 bayonet on it.

As an Army Cadet with the GGHG Cadet Corps, I recall one year in the late 60's when we paraded with the Regiment at the Ontario Winter Fair when the GG was in attendance. The Regiment paraded with Sterlings and did their present arms with bayonets affixed. The only time I've ever seen this happen. I thought it was rather cool at the time.

Cheers,
Dan.

Same when the Queen presented the Queen's York Rangers with our new Guidon in 1984(?)

We were manning a checkpoint in a base defense exercise, with no blank ammo, so I made my guys fix bayonets including the two of us with SMG's. Funny how people took you far more seriously with a pointy stick than a empty weapon.

Apparently so,

Bayonet obsolete? Not yet, apparently -
