New life for the M109 ???

So how do I buy one!
I don't think they are being sold individually.  If you want one, you'd better be able to buy the lot.

Lot sales
Fleet managers need only inquire

Do the parked M109's still have there Call Signs on them?

the 40 odd that were parked outside (last week) pert much all had tarps draped over turrets & hulls - so hard to tell... but... probably - yeah

Eqpt being sold to other armies must go through a "de-Canadianization" process so that they are never later to be confused as being ours.  Odds are that this process will see most (or all) external markings (from call signs to the tac signs) removed.

Cool, so where or who do I contact to get atleast three of them, I do have a controled goods lic.

If anyone gets the chance and finds 15A, please give her a "good job pat on the turret" for me. I spent five years with that baby. :warstory:

wouldn't happen to have the CFR would you? Just kidding, I have no idea which one might've been yours guns; I was looking for some of the ones I served on too, they did well in their time I thought too.

The M109's in storage are in various states, some still have their individual Bty Tac signs as well as Bde ones, some are completely olive drab and have nothing but a CFR on them to identify them as having been in Canadian service.

Kind of surprising and funny to seem some things still on them, 3 still had their comm's installation (sans radio) including the CI's for the TCCCS, another had some 2 I/C's ammo count still written on the back door, one had some kind of crib notes (short hand for something) written on the inside of the turret, another still had GAP angles written on its record plate.
BTW once the comm's gear was spotted it was like a shark feeding frenzy; the CFSD escort was on his cell getting tech's to remove the gear pronto (pun intended).

Disposal of equipment like this is done by the Director for Disposal Artefacts and Loans  (NDHQ)
as mentioned already, highly unlikely onesies and twosies would be sold, but you never know, there's the odd L5 sitting on a few private lawns here and there.

We had the two senior call signs on the gun park floor as of a month ago. They have now gone to stay nice and warm in the old German tank hangers in Shilo. One CS is already "on blocks" in the RCA Museum. I think i saw a condition tag I signed hanging on the M15 quadrant....

Hopefully they're authorized to do that
Not too long ago a unit (that shall remain nameless) put an M109 from their lines up on a concrete pad for permanent display purposes.
Unfortunately they hadn't bothered informing DASPM they were going to do this, or the disposal folks; the gun was supposed to be part of those up for sale (not sure if they had done all the environmental stuff either)
In the end it was written off anyway
Point being people shouldn't assume ownership is 9 tenths of the law, and do what they want with vehicles waiting for disposal that have been sitting around taking up space in their lines

Ah, so they've moved them off the floor? It was nice, however, being able to poke around those 2 guns over the summer. I recall one Sgt making a comment that it was a real shame that they had been retired. That said, it's good to hear that at least one of the guns have gone to a good home. Is it the one with the RCR plaque on it or the other one?

I've heard from pers out of Shilo that they went through all the right hoops to get permission for three.  I cannot verify the procedure was in fact followed, but they did know the correct authorizing authority by acronym so I see that as a positive sign
