Mounties try to save toddler from house fire
Written by The Canadian Press
Oct. 17, 2011, Inuvik, N.W.T. - A brave attempt by two Mounties to save a toddler from a burning home in Inuvik, N.W.T., has ended tragically.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Wayne Norris says the officers got to the scene before the firefighters on Sunday morning, and were told that a two-year-old remained upstairs.

Norris says the officers ran inside, then crawled on their hands and knees on the upper floor until they found the child.

They emerged safely and handed the baby over to firefighters, who had just arrived on the scene.

The child was rushed to Inuvik Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.

RCMP say the cause of fire remains under investigation.

Unfortunately, not enough stories of bravery and selflessness by the RCMP make it out to counter all the bad apple articles.

Well done Mounties, and RIP to the infant.
