Hi, I've got a simple question. Could one of you please tell me if there is a directive that states to the effect that an injured soldier must/should seek medical aid. If there is could you please post a link or cite the appropriate CFAO/DAOD/QR&O/whatever.

I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

Any chance of getting a little more background ?
Is this theoretical ?

Reg or Reserve?
On duty, not on duty?
Seriously injured, or minor ?
pensionable ?

Someone senior could say "You will go see the medic" which would cover it.

CFAO 5-01

5.01 â “ GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF NON-COMMISSIONED MEMBERS

A non-commissioned member shall:
  (c) promote the welfare, efficiency and good discipline of all who are subordinate to the member;

CFAO 24-1  CASUALTIES -REPORTING AND ADMINISTRATION

Nope, not theoretical. The injuries this person were to her knee and back. The person is Reg force on Course. The injuries were sustained in the field. She's essentially being punished for going to the MIR in the field for medical reasons. The medic in the field said she should see a Doctor and they sent her to the Base hospital.

I'd already looked at CFAO 24-1, thanks for DAOD 2007-1. I was looking for something a little more specific though. "Is self inflicted wound still on the books? I remember being told that an injury left untreated which becomes infected or something can be considered a self inflicted wound and therefore a chargeable offence.

I was always led to believe that if you are injured then in order to be covered by the CF you must report it.

True. we can't fix (cover) what we don't know about.
Here's another for you.

Context

CF members may be required to serve in situations that can be dangerous to their life or health. In order to ensure that CF members and former CF members may be provided pensions and other benefits under the Pension Act, all injuries, as well as exposure or suspected exposure to toxic substances, must be reported and documented.

Documentation

The commanding officer (CO) of a CF member shall ensure that a permanent record of the relevant circumstances pertaining to an injury, or exposure or suspected exposure to a toxic substance, is kept on the CF member's permanent personal file. The record shall include all relevant information including the way in which the circumstances relate to the military mission or task.

Process
Recording

Incidents of injuries as well as exposure or suspected exposure to toxic substances shall be recorded on form CF 98, Report on Injuries or Exposure to Toxic Material.

Temporary Duty

When a CF member on temporary duty is injured, or exposed or suspected to have been exposed to a toxic substance, the CO of the host unit shall ensure that form CF 98 is completed and distributed, and that an information copy is sent to the parent unit of the CF member.
