Anyone tried these? I am looking for a glove for the field that put up with abuse, but I can still write orders and whatnot with.

I have had good luck with Mechanix Wear's Original Gloves, there top quality, and practically form fit to your hand. They would have to because they are desighned for Mechanics and they need to pick up small bolts, nuts etc. I am only a recruit going to St.Jean soon so I have no military experence whatsover, but the origianl gloves has the name written across the back of the glove - all over.I have never seen them in a solid black colour myself. But this was a year or so ago when I was lookiing to buy some. Would this be allowed to use in the field?.

They come in a Cammo and Stelth colour to make them more tactical. As a recruit in St. Jean...........probably not. But after that when you get to your unit you should be allowed.

Thanks for the update and pics. The "Stealth" look is really sharp. I am sure those would cost a bit extra too. :cdn:

I dont mind spending a bit more for a good product. When I bought the original back a year ago, black with white letters on the back, I paid around $34 or so I beleive. The only thing that I dont like about them is that the "white" letters get stained with grease etc. Mine have been through the wash many times and there holding up great. Can you buy gloves/kit at a military store on base? I was always wondering that. I have heard about the Canex selling electronics, boot polish, razors, etc. :cdn:

I have never seen it, but that dosn't mean they don't sell them. Try online or go to http://www.mechanix.com/home.asp

That good huh?

well I'm sold then. I used to use Easton Batting gloves but they get ruined to fast. Thanks for the help.

those look pretty sweet. any place to buy in the Halifax area, or is it online only?

Canadian Tire carries them, Princess Auto, just about any UAP NAPA...in short, parts stores boys. Or call your local Mac or Snap-On dealer, they carry similar gloves. Currently I have a set of the generic mechanix gloves for station work (Oil changes, hose rolling, etc) and I carry a set of the Hi Impact 2 gloves. The regular gloves are about 35 bucks and the Hi Impacts can get upwards of 50. Happy Hunting.

I'm with Specialist Cameron- I've been using Mechanix gloves for a couple of years.. they allow "fine" work such as getting a nut onto a bolt, or picking up washers, and they're great armor for the back of your hands from cuts, hot exhaust, etc. I wash them frequently and they've held up nicely. I'd take them off to write orders, though, or you'll end up getting some nasty grease stains on your sheet! Cheers.

Are you guys talking about acctually using them for mechanic work or are you talking about army use?

Mechanic work, for me (thus my nickname).. they're not quite what I'd use for patrolling or anything.  CF mortar gloves, US flight gloves, or those green and brown issued work gloves is what I used to use for grunt stuff.

Patrolling and what not for me. Combat arms (Arty) kind of work.

Try these, also from Princess Auto, and they come in OD

Only cost 20 bucks

Mechanics work and combat ops... nothing worse than PMCS ing a Bradley in 120 degree weather with no protection...plus they look highspeed when performing comabat ops

Cool. I'll check them out.

BTW, this has always plagued me.. what is the Cnd rank equivalent of Specialist?

Careful using them in the field. Check the material composition of them and you may find that you do not want to grab a blistering hot C9 barrel with your Gucci gloves, you may end up wearing them permanently. I am not allowed to wear them on fires or anytime there is a threat of fire around because of the ingredients in the gloves. Just food for thought.

anyone dumb enough to grab a hot c9 deserves to wear em for good. Just my opinion.
