JTF-2 Selection

Age is only a factor if you let it be.  Here are 2 examples of men who didn't.

Well this thread made me curious and made me wonder: how many chances do you have to "try out" (recruiting process + 1 week of hell) when it comes to JTF2?

If you fail, can you try again? etc

Depends on the circumstances, I have known (and I sure there are others on here who know people as well), who have had more than 1 kick at the can.  However that said I don't know what would merit letting someone try again.  I would suggest that if you are planning on applying (or even just toying with the idea), that you go in with the intention of passing and passing by a high margin, rather than worrying about can you get another shot..

It's just the impression i have that even if you blow through the physical test, that the one week of hell will utterly kick your ass. I mean the failure rate is 75-90 percent! That's huge.
I am giving myself 3 years to train before i think about attempting anything.
But i can't help feeling a little intimidated.

I was at a JTF2 recruiting seminar not too long ago and above all the guys made sure to emphasize two points about selection:

1) The more physically fit you are, the better you'll be at dealing with the mental challenges.

2) Don't listen to what your buddies say about who can/should apply and who can/should not apply.  If you meet the minimum requirements (as stated on the CANFORGENs) and think you have the potential, go right ahead and apply.  The only guys qualified to tell you whether or not you are suited for the JTF2 are the guys at the DHTC.

Got a quick question: Say you attempted to pass selection and for whatever reason you failed, from what I've read they don't hand out second tries too readily, but would that affect your attempt to enter a selection process for the CSOR or similar?

Not at all.  They know absolutely that a very small percentage of people have " what it takes" to be JTF2,  but may definately have the skillset for CSOR.  It's two different ballgames alltogether.
Some people use CSOR as a stepping stone to JTF2.
Good luck

One of my platoon mates back in basic, his son was JTF2. Very interesting stuff. From what I know of. It's all about fitness for the better part of it as described before. There was also another gentleman that had his brother in CSOR. So I mean if you put your mind to it. Anything is possible.

Remember lets rely on official sources and not hearsay from those with friends and relatives that may or may not be with these units.

I thought about starting a new thread but didn't see the point of starting yet another SOF thread, so without further adieux.

The whole idea of getting more then one kick at the can or failing to get picked up during JTF2 selection, and then applying to CSOR questions, made me think.

Are you allowed to apply to both at the same time (so to speak since the deadlines are different) since both teams only have ONE selection per year, would it not be wise to have that "back-up" in case you don't get picked up by one you don't have to wait out another year, you can simply keep pushing forward with the other unit.

I'm truthfully asking not just trying to disturb the peace, i'm curious as a prospective candidate.

Yes you can. I spoke to a JTF 2 recruiter today about that.

Just for some to note- per a CANFORGEN last week, JTF2 will no longer accept applications from reservists.

In the case of SOA and Coxswain selection processes.

Per 18 months, according to the same CANFORGEN.

Rheostatic beat me to it.  Support and Specialist selection is not mentioned in the CANFORGEN.

TN2IC: thanks for that quick and easy reply, does it make a difference that I will be applying as Cat 1 and not Cat 2, in regards to applying to both? I know Cat 2 can apply to pretty much all the CANSOFCOM units at the same time.

Rheostatic: yes every 18months, I read the CANFORGEN, knew it was longer then a year just didn't remember 100%, thanks.

When you speak to the BPSO, just tell them that you are intrested in JTF 2, then CSOR as Cat 1. For anymore questions, I personally suggest you try calling them. 1 800 959 9188 is for JTF 2 Recruiter. They are human like the rest of us. And they are more than happy to answer any questions.

Im sorry if this has been asked already but is it possible to become jtf-2 as an officer or is this only a NCM trade? Thank you!

There are spots for both on the support and assaulter side of the organization.

Hey Steve-O-,

You mentioned that some people may not pass the JTF2 selection but they might pass the CSOR selection. Does that mean that CSOR is 'easier' or are CSOR instructors not looking for certain traits which JTF2 are looking for?

I understand that both units are extremely difficult to join, however.

With respect,

Michael K.
