How much trouble would a person get in for leaving their weapon behind?

are we talking getting charged?  tarred and feathered?  curiousity....

Definitely Charged.  A Fine for sure.  Could include CB for several days.  Perhaps even jail time or Release.  Depending on the situation, it could involve other Charges relating to 'events' that may have led to the occurrence, with such questions arising as: was alcohol involved, was the weapon loaded with live rounds, was this in a civilian establishment, was this in a area of conflict, etc.  I could see an extreme case resulting in Release from the CF.

ok.

well.  it would really suck then to be that hypothetical guy then.

Did "hypothetical guy" leave a empty weapon hanging in a tree in Petawawa or did he get drunk on Tour and leave it in a civilian establishment as payment, along with several magazines of live rounds, for some illegal contraband?

Imagine, hypothetically, of course, that a military person left their personal weapon, loaded with live rounds, in a kitchen on an overseas tour and it was picked up by someone from another military.

I don't know all of what happened to that person, but (hypothetically), it wasn't nearly enough.  Not booted off tour, got promoted on time during the tour......all hypothetical, of course.  ::)

no... "hypothetical guy" left a loaded weapon with a full 30 rd mag in a common area on camp (not KAF) in A'stan.

It's happened a few times in KAF on this roto. Usual result is a fine, I believe a quarter of a month's pay.

We had a "hypothetical guy" in My Sqn overseas, his patrol had their C/S so loaded with kit, that his C8 fell out of the bin, out side of the camp, as they were leaving the camp (in Kabul). A patrol of Norwegians were coming into the camp moments later and noticed it on the way in. They picked it up. My patrol had to deliver it to the offending "hypothetical guy" out on an OP. Lets just say he was very embarrassed and pissed off! He was also lucky that the ANA didn't grab it as they also shared a "gate".
We were always very competitive, so when I was escort at the charge parade, I was happy to listen in. He only received a $250 fine.....my jaw dropped and was appalled at the "Justice system" As I have known other's that were given harsher fines or CB for less things! I guess it all depends on how much the CO likes you!

Let's just say, hypothetically, that "hypothetical guy" did/does play hockey

Then hypothetically "hypothetical guy" may soon get promoted, and his/her new Pay Scale will more than compensate for his/her payment to the Queen's coffers.

;-)

Well then he hypothetically establishes that he is a cut above the soldier that doesn't play hockey or, heaven forbid, one of those scallywags who play that thing called rugby....... :peace:
