To whom it may concern,
I have recently moved into a new (to me) home in Calgary, and discovered a desk name plate, that was left behind by one of the previous tenants.
I can provide a photo if needed/required.
The following information is engraved on the brass plate that is attached to the wood block:
Cpl. GILLIS J. R.
HQ CBUME (QM)
RAFAH, EGYPT
1961-62 1971-76 (this date is written with a different style of engraving)
I wonder if he is related to the Corporal J.R. Gillis (715785) from Springhill, Nova Scotia who served with the Nova Scotia Rifles, 106th Overseas Battalion C.E.F.
I would be very interested in the story behind this name plate and his service.
I would also like to return it to him or his family if possible.
With respect,
Kelly Christie
