TASK GROUPS TO DISSEMINATE TO MAINT ELM IN LOC
 
SUBJ: SAFETY - RODUM - SHOES, GYMNASIUM, NSN: 66-139-3407
 
A.  1 RTB ARTC, REPORT NUMNER ARTC 2/2008, DATED 23 MAY 2008
B.  TRAMM VOLUME 2, SECTION 1, CHAPTER 5
1.  REF A - ACK.
2.  FOR REPORTING UNIT CONTACT CAPT XXXXXXX.
3.  REF A DETAILED FAULT WITH THE LACES PROVIDED WITH THE ADF RUNNERS
ARE TOO LONG CAUSING TRIPPING.
4.  DMO CLOSPO TECHNICAL SUPPORT IS THE INVESTIGATING AUTHORITY .
5.  DIRECT ALL ENQUIRIES TO THE INVESTIGATING AUTHORITY NOMINATED
IN PARA 4, ATTENTION XXXX XXXXXXX, TEL (XX) XXXX XXXX
6.  THE IA ADVISES THAT THE CURRENT IN-SERVICE ADF RUNNER IS A
COMMERCIAL OFF THE SHELF (COTS) ITEM AND THAT THE LACE LENGTH IS AS A
RESULT OF THE ITEM BEING COTS. THE CURRENT RUNNER HAS BEEN IN ADF
SERVICE FOR 3-4 YEARS WITH NO RODUM ACTIVITY ON LACES.
7.  THE ITEM FLEET MANAGER HAS ADVISED THAT DISCUSSIONS WILL BE HELD
WITH THE CURRENT SUPPLIER TO REDUCE THE LENGTH OF LACES IN FUTURE
PROCUREMENT. THE FLEET MANAGER HAS ALSO ADVISED THAT NO ALTERNATE
SUITABLE LACE IS CATALOGUED TO PROVIDE REPLACEMENT LACES IN A SHORT
TIME FRAME.
8.  THE IA ADVISES THAT AS AN INTERIM MEASURE USERS SHOULD EITHER
DOUBLE KNOT THEIR LACES, OR TIE A KNOT AT THE REQUIRED LENGTH, CUT
OFF THE EXCESS AND THEN HEAT SEAL THE END WITH A FLAME.
9.  ALL ACTION IN REGARD TO 1 RTB ARTC RODUM ARTC 2/2008, DMO RODUM
SEQUENCE NUMBER 20080854 IS NOW CONSIDERED COMPLETE.  RODUM CLOSED

You know for that to have been filed, there is has to be at least one soldier out there that did trip on his laces and most likely hurt himself... that's what the system is for I guess...

My son has tripped on his laces too, but that's just because he's numpty and didn't listen to his mom when she told him to double-knot.  ;D

I personally edited my post many times before I clicked send... I didn't want to suggest that some dumb-a** couldn't tie proper knots so he submitted a UCR.. just in case it was Wesley I didn't want to insult him.

With this confirmation that Aussies don't know how to tie their shoelaces, I now understand the appeal (and proliferation) of Blunnies et al down under.
