According to the "Preparation for Basic Training: Physical Fitness Guide" level 6 of the shuttle run is the minimum requirement for men under 35, but it also says to be able to run 2.4km in 11:56, which, if my calculations from fischer10's post (link below)  are correct is equivalent to level 12. Is one the minimum for the test and the other what you will need for training? Or is level 6 the bare minimum but level 12 is generally needed to have a chance to compete for a spot? Or something else?

Thanks

For Male under XX age you will need to get to level 6 as a minimum - doesn't matter if you are doing the test in BMQ or part of your yearly PT test, 6 is a pass.  The only time the minimum will go up is if you are trying out for something like CPP or CSOR, etc.

Like what has been stated a hundred times here,  don't worry about the minimums,  aim to be higher.  Be in the best shape you can get into before leaving for BMQ - and any other course, and maintain the fitness when you are at your unit.

lvl 6 shouldn't even have you breaking a sweat if you're heading off to basic.

Of everything on BMQ/BMOQ the PT test should be the least of your worries about passing.

Your calculations are not correct. Someone who gets to level 12 on the shuttle run is able to complete 2.4km in less than 10 min (probably closer to 9).

What do you mean by "compete for a spot"?
