Job Summary

The Artisanal Gold Council is looking for an experienced senior administrator to successfully lead significant administrative tasks and responsibilities at the AGC Head Office in Victoria, BC. You will have experience managing staff, including hiring, performance management and compensation related functions. You are a strong financial manager, with experience overseeing financial processes, producing financial reports, and conveying complex financial information to non-technical audiences. You have knowledge or familiarity with public administration and you are proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. You have relevant post-secondary educational qualifications and are knowledgeable about the BC Societies Act. Applicants who can speak a second language, or who have experience in the mining or not-for-profit sector are preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage a small team of staff, responsible for issues including the hiring processes, performance management, pay and benefits, and scheduling
• Manage internal financial processes including the production of financial reports and the explanation of complex financial information to executive for review
• Manage complex international travel arrangements for staff through interaction with the corporate travel office and international funding agencies
• Manage and align contractors and partners with AGC financial obligations and policies
• Manage AGC office and international assets and reoccurring payments, coordinating with country property managers when required
• Ensure the effective management of risk, through the development of policies and procedures, and effective financial and funding risk management
• Manage and maintain records and communications to support strategic initiatives, and as required by legislation and other imperatives

Desired Qualifications:

• 5-7 years of experience managing an office environment
• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
• Knowledge of the BC Societies Act
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience in the not-for-profit sector is considered an asset
• Knowledge or familiarity with public administration
• Ability to speak a second language is an asset

Job Summary

The Artisanal Gold Council is looking for two project managers, one for Peru and one for Indonesia, to successfully manage large, complex international development projects over a five year time frame. You will have previous experience managing projects of a similar size, scope and nature in the 5-10 million dollar range, working across varied languages, cultures and geography. Based in Victoria, BC, you will lead a small team of experienced professionals addressing challenges in the artisanal gold mining sector. You will be comfortable working at government to government level, with international NGO’s as well as with field based personnel and communities in remote areas. The ability to work in languages other than English is an asset. You have relevant post-secondary educational qualifications and will have experience managing complex budgets.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage budgets, working within constraints to meet project goals
• Forecast, manage and develop achievable and comprehensive schedules
• Allocate resources within constraints and forecast solutions to meet shortfalls
• Match performance management needs to project goals and requirements
• Understand and mitigate project related risks
• Communicate effectively, facilitating buy-in and unity of purpose
• Delegate responsibly and manage within constraints and non-negotiables
• Set up structures, imperatives and incentives to engage in projects
• Supervise and manage daily tracking and management of cost, schedule and performance
Knowledge
• Post-secondary education and professional experience in a field directly related to extractive resource governance such as public policy, international relations, public administration, business or engineering
• Ability and experience in working with a varied team of stakeholders in an office and field environment
• Five or more years’ experience in managing or working within a project across cultural, gender and multi-disciplinary boundaries
• Five or more years’ experience working in complex technical and governance environments with unsupervised work in a majority of tasks
• Minimum experience of five or more years managing development projects with three years’ experience in projects related to small-scale mining is an asset
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to plan, organize and deliver a complex program in a collaborative working environment
• Proven ability in a project management capacity, with particular emphasis on results based outcomes
• Knowledge in more than one of the following areas is a requirement: Mining, training, technical (mechanic), equipment maintenance, gender equality, international development projects, community relations and regional governance, business set-up (incorporation), finance and legal

Desired Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
• PMP Certification is an asset
• Basic understanding of technical processes and equipment
• Fluent in English with some second language ability (ideally in Spanish for the Peru project)
• Comfortable managing using a range of IT tools
