Out with it now... As the topic implies I'm looking for info about how to switch from the Regular Force to the Reserves and what the process would include. Currently, I'm posted in Kingston, ON awaiting my ACISS DP 1.0 which begins on the 10th of this month.

If you've got issues at home, ask for compassionate leave to deal with them. Where are you posted for OJT? You can ask for a compassionate posting to Edmonton which will at least get you driving distance away to sort things out on the weekends. I would definitely talk to your staff, and don't throw away a career because you don't think you're "ready." These boards are full of people who VR'd, or CTed to the PRes and are waiting in line to get back into the RegF.

Hi there!  It's been one year since I'm in regular and I have a 4 year contract as Bosn in the navy. I would like to transfer to the regular to the first reserve. is that possible?

Jowel:  I've merged your request in English with a thread with a lot of information regarding such transfers.

Hey there, just wondering if anyone has done this lately, transfering from reg forces to reserves in the same trade (ql3 trained).

Any insight into the process? Even if your contract isnt finished

When you are nearing the end of your release(6+ months out) start looking at the Reserve unit/units you are considering joining. Once you've picked a unit, contact them and at some point you will most likely have to do a interview with the RSM(if you are a NCM). If the unit wants to take you on, they will give you a position number, etc(or they will email this info to the release clerk). When you start your release with the base release section, inform them you will be transferring to the P Res. There is form where you say you wish to go P Res, and you write the unit name and position number on it. If all goes well, you will release from the Reg Force and start parading with the reserve unit shortly after.

If you will need to OT to join a unit, this can add considerable more time to the process, and you will probably have to release to the Supp Res until the OT is complete. Some brigades may have different policies, and you may be able to join a P Res unit while your OT is processing.

As well, I would recommend getting a copy of your Pers file, UER as well as your MPRR before you leave the Reg Force.

I'm currently at BMQ for regular force, I am currently awaiting for my VR to go through so that I can be released, but I don't actually want to be out of the military as it's always been my dream I just feel I wrnt down the wrong path, I want to switch to reserve forces, is it possible to switch to reserves while I'm here in St Jean and then to be sent home for reserve basic training, and if that's not the case I am interested in becoming a Cadet Cadre, would I have to wait the allotted 6months to reapply? Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure that you cannot component transfer from the Reg F to the Res F unless you are already occupation qualified.  If you Voluntarily Release (Item 4.c.) prior to becoming occupation qualified, then you cannot submit an application to any Component of the CF until 12 months after the effective date of release.

I'm currently on BMOQ Mod 1. Is it possible to switch to my local infantry Reserve unit for BMQ?

Hi, I had a few questions about transferring from regular to reserve. I'm currently in Borden on the PAT platoon waiting for my HRA course to begin in April. (I finished BMQ last November) I would like to know if transferring would take much time as I am not trained yet and I want to begin civilian school in August. Also, is it possible to change trade while I transfer and go from Army to Navy if a trade in the Royal Canadian Army is opened in my reserve unit? Thank you in advance  ;D

Hello Army.ca,

Background information:
Have currently been serving with the CAF for the last 8 years.
Obligatory service ends in December 2018.
I am a fully trained Infantry Officer with 3 years in my unit come December.
All of my PDRs / PERs have been extremely positive from the last 4 years.

Questions:
What type of penalties am I looking at for releasing 10 months prior to obligatory service end date?
Is it possible to Component Transfer to the reserves from an ROTP plan with 10 months obligatory service remaining?
Reserve unit in question has officer positions open for COY 2IC / Pl Comd both which I have prior experience in, can I facilitate a CT?
Does release section take calls during the day to facilitate questions?
Will you get posted, if you are due to be posted although you have a release memo (180 days) submitted to the CO?

If anyone can answer my questions please answer below.

dapaterson,

Thanks for the quick reply and references!

I have already read through the majority of the DAOD's and QR&O's but am having trouble locating information on Component Transferring. In my eyes, the reason the CT exists is for members to be able to transfer without a break in service ensuring they can keep their foot in a door, while focusing on alternative goals.

I wish to continue to serve Canada and the CAF part time while maintaining its tradition of excellence.

I'm part of an active service couple but it's looking like that something has to give in order to end the career conflicts and give stability to our kids at home. I'm considering leaving the RegF but am 8 years away from an immediate annuity/pension.  I'm looking at the PRes and public service so I can follow my spouse more easily when posted.

If I'm interested in class B, is it possible I will not be hired because I am at a higher pay level and close to a pension? Is it true that class B work would mean a steady 8-4 M-F workweek of sorts? Will it be hard to get hired while I'm still RegF?

If I get a public service job and a weekend warrior position at a reserve unit, would I keep contributing to the reg force pension plan as a reservist, or would I buy into the public service plan?

If I get a 15-days/month class A job, how long would it take to complete the last 8 years needed for an immediate annuity?

Are there other options/issues I should consider? Thank you
