Hey guys,

My boyfriends graduating from BMOQ next month, and I was thinking of getting him this compass as a grad gift..

http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442619485&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302696143

He's going to be a construction engineer, so I figured it would be a practical gift, but not sure if it would be too handy for his trade. Do you think its a good idea?(if not, im open to suggestions)
And also if I got engraving done on the compass, would it ruin the alignment of the compass or would it still work accurately?

Thanks to whoever can help! :)

That looks remarkably like the one that he'll be issued.

It does look remarkably like the issued compass but it is in "degrees" not "mils".

Here you go.

Regards

If you'd like to buy him a gift, and something useful, consider one of these

Plenty of troops end up buying them eventually (He may well have bought one already, or at least one similar to it), they fit the issued note pads, handy for keeping paperwork/cheat notes, useful as an officer.

CPGear is pretty helpful with custom orders, probably wouldn't cost too much to get "Remember I love you" or "Good luck" or something along those lines embroidered on it.

Edit: Actually, you know what would be great? Get a little pink heart embroidered patch sew it on, that way, every time he opens up, he'll think of you. Extra thinking of you when his buddies poke fun of him for it. Everyone wins.

Neat idea, but I suggest you get it embroidered on the inside so he doesn't get chirped too hard.

If it were me, and it were my boyfriend, I'd make sure it was on the outside, with pink embroidery saying "Stay Safe Sweetie".

Of course, being a straight male, it's not likely to ever be my boyfriend... conversely, if my girlfriend were to present such a gift to me, and if anyone were to comment on it in a joking manner, it would be met by my best NCO scowl and a "What?"

Tuck it inside, somewhere subtle and sweet, would be a great thought.

That looks like a pretty handy gift! I suppose he would probably use it more than a compass as an officer anyway, If i go for this Im definitely going to be sewing a pink heart on to it  :D

Thanks a lot!

There's a couple of different/similar models, best option would specifically say "field message pad" somewhere in the description, as that's the standard issue (read: he'll get it from the army for free) note pad.
