Okay, again, feeling real welcomed by you. I mean I have been looking it up for a few hours today. Seriously, I have been looking, and after not finding anything I decided I would post the question, as that is what the next step is according to the rules.

As to your “Get off it kid.…” okay, well, I am a kid (15), I am just trying to learn about stuff.

If “kid” is supposed to be an insult, I feel very very insulted  :sarcasm:.

Lol

GAP,

I found a thread where it seemed there were a lot of knowledgable people, if you don’t have an answer I would kindly ask that you not reply to it, it’s simply common sense.

Thank you

We frequently have members register, and, within minutes, fire questions all over the place. It quickly gets tiresome.

When I first saw your series of questions, my initial reaction was "here we go again". I read your posts, and they seemed fine to me, so, appropriately, I said nothing. I appreciate that you took at least some time to poke around first.

Keep exploring this Site. It takes a while to really get the flavour of life in the CF, or even just a part of it, as there are many variables and everybody's experience is different.

The best answer to many questions is "it depends", unfortunately.

Thank you for replying,

I posted because I decided that there were a few questions about a few different trades that I was hoping to get some more specific answers to. I have mostly gotten those, but I have gotten a lot of the vague stuff. But hey, some information is better than none every time.

What is the role of the combat engineer?

When the gunners run out of shells and the infantry runs out of missiles the role of the engineer is to grab 20 lbs of C4, run towards the enemy, drop the C4, light the blue touch paper and retire in an orderly manner to a safe location.

That gave me a good laugh

Thanks for the reply!

Do you guys have anything else for me, maybe specifically on 4 ESR, I heard (from the forces.ca operations page) that parts of 4 ESR were deployed to Iraq. What are the Combat Engineers doing in Iraq? I realize most of you will respond with one word “OPSEC”, which makes sense, but if it isn’t against OPSEC than I would really be interested in knowing what stuff they are doing there, mostly building for our troops and the ISF/Peshmerga, or IEDD/demolition, or breaching on the front lines.

Please be as vague as you need to, please do not violate OPSEC, please tell me if you think people may respond in a way which could endanger Canadian lives, if that is the case, I will remove this post immediately (tomorrow morning).

I meant what 4 ESR is doing currently in Iraq, like today, yesterday, tomorrow, the next day, that kind of thing. Not like exactly what they do (OPSEC), but like what their mandate is.

Thanks

How's everybody feeling?  ;D
I'm in the process of joining and I'm interested in this trade. 37 years young, pretty decent shape. Powerlifting background although last few months have been just running, rucking and bodyweight stuff.

What's the average age of a NCM combat engineer these days?

My biggest concern is I am 28 years old, is that too old to start in this trade?

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some searching online about reservists going on reg courses, and although it does appear to happen, I haven't come across any specific to combat engineers. Has anyone here heard of reservists getting on a FETS course? I'd like to try and get my DP1 done this year before I get a job that will laugh at me when I ask to to take 6-14 weeks off for training, and would honestly like to just get it done all at once rather than spreading my DP1 out over two summers. I still need to do BMQ-L this summer, so I won't be able to get on a reserve course. If anyone also knows about any dates for Reg DP1 courses late summer/fall this year, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

im about to start dp1 for combat engineer. i know you out 2 preferences down for your posting. my question is what are the chances ill get edmonton if i put it as ny first choice and my next of kin are all in edmonton and saskatoon?

You are able to provide preferences for postings.  Those preferences are one factor considered, along with the needs of the service, the need to provide individuals with experience, and a myriad of other factors.

If you search "posting preferences", you will likely come across answers similar to the above.

so i undertand the army will put you where they need you. im just wonderinf the chances of gettinf Edmonton. you get to put 2 preferences so should i put 1 CER and write that mt next of kin are there and 2 CER as the sexond choice? just trying to raise my chances of gettinf posted to edmonton as my family is all in alberta and british columbia

Request Edmonton, but be prepared to not receive what you want. That being said, there's always a chance. But never, ever go into it having your heart set on one place, as if that is the case, the military life is not for you. Best of luck!

During the 20 weeks of engineer school in gagetown do combat engineers get paid?
