Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

Ok, but where do you put the extra EIC compartment? Hmmm? My vote is 6 mess.
You don't need an extra EIC - you just need to have extension cables, and flip them over to the 'extra' missiles once you've fired the inboard ones? Or - fire these ones first then switch to the inboard ones?

Or hang a containerized VLS out the mission bay… dump it when it’s used.

Looks like you can run the seacans out through the hangar onto the flight deck.

And here is that CIC graphic that I was looking for. Change the colour of the wooly pullies and it could be an RRCA FSCC

Lot's of fire risk storing missiles there, While you can supplement your missile load outs with merchant ships, you don't get the sensors or the trained crew. Seacan based SHORAD onboad cargo ships being escorted make sense, particular if those systems are networked and controlled by the escort.
You need an effective way to resupply warships with missiles that can use anchorages near the fight, but are not in obvious locations as that would be a high value target.

if Ukraine has taught us anything its that you can't hide unless you totally control the airspace. It isn't likely that there will be a convenient anchorage. Perhaps better to keep your munitions well behind the lines and only bring forward your detection and fire control systems and keep your on-board loadouts for self-defense.

South Pacific has a lot of anchorages, what it does not have is a lot of secure harbours. The major naval vs air threat is in the South China Sea. that's a long way from home for a lot of US ships.

F5BA995E-86C0-441C-AD69-BE59F754A1A3.jpeg It seems we keep talking about adding more weapons systems to the CSC or Halifax for defensive operations and offensive. Length of time required to build proper warships due to their redundancy and DC aspects. Both those ships will prove de part of a larger task force.
Containerized systems that can be loaded out in basically a sea can once expended dumped into the ocean.
What about a commercial ship that is widely built around the world can deal with extreme weather, be built quickly in most yards. Carries ample food and fresh water. All of the warships will be linked with and defensive systems. It is nothing more than a launcher within the fleet.

World war 3 on the Pacific will be just like world war 3 in Central Europe: You’ll flight with only you have on hand. Esquimalt, Victoria Shipyards and port of Vancouver (not to mention YVR) will be destroyed. You’ll you need an escort to protect those ships. The Americans have their docks and they don’t have reloads. They won’t have time to sit still and get loaded 🍺. The Americans will also have to assign one of their FFG62 frigates to protect it. We don’t have enough frigates to protect those as well as our JSS.

In all likelihood we will be sitting it out. Doing the best we can to support NORAD. Defend Vancouver....or maybe even declare "Open City" would be an option.

I suspect China will not directly strike North American ports, in the understanding that Chinese mainland ports are not hit either. The potentiel to mine port entrances and perhaps 1-2 subs on a one way missions off the west coast will be the most we see close to our shores. To sustain fleet ops in a gruelling but drawn out fight, you will need mobile facilities to repair and restock the fleet. China will use everything from threats, diplomacy, sabotage to limit the use of near theatre ports to sustain the fleet. Their goal is not necessarily the destruction of the fleet, but the expenditures of munitions. If your escorts are required to expend all their surface to air missiles to ward off potential strikes and inbound munitions. Then they be forced to return home to reload, that will very quickly denude your fleet of AD assets, forcing it further offshore and limiting their abilty to protect Taiwan or other friendly countries.
