Military says allegations against man go against 'ethics and the values' of Canadian Armed Forces

A Canadian soldier who served in Afghanistan is facing charges in the United Kingdom.

A statement from the military provided to The Canadian Press does not elaborate on the nature of the charges against Cpl. Jason Moore, 42.

However it says the allegations against him go against the "ethics and the values" of the Canadian Armed Forces.

A British newspaper reported on its website that Moore appeared in court on Friday and pleaded guilty to six charges including counts of making indecent photographs of children.

The Sunday Express said Moore was to be sentenced on the charges next month.

The newspaper quotes Moore's lawyer Jennifer Dempster as telling the court that her client "is a 42-year-old man of previous good character, working in London for the Canadian Armed Forces and security services."

The Canadian military statement said that until his arrest, Moore was a member of the military police providing security at the Canadian High Commission in London.

The military says he was placed on administrative duties after his arrest last year.

The statement says Moore served in Afghanistan from Oct. 2009 to May 2010.

The article states he plead guilty on Friday, sentencing next month.  He was arrested over a year ago.

So let the guilty bastard rot.

Ah, missed that bit.  I listened to it on the radio coming in today so didn't really read the story and they neglected to mention the conviction, my bad.

Once his sentence is dealt with then as far as I'm concerned he should be returned to Canada and released from the CF.  Especially disgusted that he is an MP too, he is as bad as another ex-MP, then Photo Tech that went down for Child Porn that I once served with in 1 MP PL, who shall remain nameless.

I don't think we'd wait until his sentence was finished, or he was returned to Canada, to release him. He's likely being released as we speak. If not done already.

DMCA will conduct an administrative review following conviction in a civilian court.  They will come up with a recommendation; the member will have a set period of time to respond, after which a final decision will be rendered.

Given the conviction is very recent, I doubt there has been enough time for all the necessary steps to be followed.  That said, I expect that all concerned are working to ensure everything is done correctly and quickly.

DMCA will conduct an administrative review following conviction in a civilian court. 

Given the nature of the charge, DMCA would have conducted an AR even had there been a finding of not guilty.
Different standards of proof mean that one can receive administrative action without being guilty in court.

In was involved in a case where a subordinate had been charged, convicted and jailed in a foreign country. DMCA had his release ready, pretty much effective for the hour he was deported back to Canada. We had to go back and argue that, actually, we needed at least a day for him to out clear and return his kit.

They (grudgingly) gave us a one day extension.
