Morse  Code is this way too.  The great code operators didn't separate the letters but actually heard the words or, in some cases entire sentences.

To my  'selected' strange-minded friends:
If you  can read the following paragraph, forward it on to  your friends and the person that sent it to you  with 'yes' in the subject line..

I guess that explains why kids write the way they do....apparently it's not a pboerlm.    ;)

Huh. Interesting, I can read it, and I'm female.

Yeah, I'm not sure the male/female difference will really be a factor in this one.  I think it's more gender-neutral myself.  Could be wrong though...

I think it is a ploy similar to "woh lkies iec cearm?"  -  I am not raising my hand....

When we read we see words as shapes, not as groups of individual letters. That is why it is so easy to misinterpret a word when you are writing a test and read a question too fast. When I was in grade three, my English teacher made us outline/ draw a box around all of our spelling words. Apparently it helps speed up reading as focus is placed on the shape of the word as opposed to the individual letters. Generally, if the first and last letter of the word are in the right place, the shape of the word is close enough to the original that we can infer the correct word. I'm pretty sure it's a gender neutral thing. Interesting how that works!
