Does anyone know if the RCMP work/dress uniform allow the cloth/metal wings?
If so do you know a link I could use as reference?

I was told atleast by my parachute instructors its allowed but I wanted to double check before asking my drill instructors at depot...
And I know most municipal/provincial police allow it cuz ive seen it but it would be wierd if federal police doesnt allow it.

Thanks,
-Kevin

PS I did search the thread about this on this forum from 2006 but I need a link or something legit.

...BTW, read your posts in the other forum - where you were asking the same question.

though "para"military The RCMP is not a component of the CF, it is not military.... so while medals earned in the CF are usually permitted for wear, qualification badges might not... the RCMP has it's own distinctive occupation & competentcy badges for it's uniforms.

Talk to your Sgt Major - his will be your definitive authority to wear / not wear.

No they are not allowed to be worn on any RCMP form of dress.....however I do know several folks that wear them anyway on their red serge.

No one has jacked them up for it. I have seen both para wings Cdn and Dutch and SAR Tech Wings. I was at Depot today for the Memorial Parade and the latest thing for the medal envious is to wear the Sask Centenial medal. It is not Gazetted for wear on the RCMP uniform, however at least two S/M's were wearing it today!

So with that in mind throw up the bling!

conjures up some imagery...

To stay on topic... I have also seen a red Serge with wings on it...

I was going to say that a certain ex-commissioner liked "customizing" his uniform but could not find the links to back up what I was going to assert readily so I won't (hmmm, perk of the top job maybe).
Anyway, the RCMP should have it's own forum to discuss thinks like these.

We do have our own thread on this forum, so I was quite surprised when the question was posted in this area.

There is one other CF qualification badge that I have seen RCMP members wearing and that is the CF EOD Badge. I've seen it worn on both the work and dress uniform. I don't know if that is because they take the same training or if it is a specialist quiff that they maintain without seeking permission. I rather believe that it is the latter as units such as URT petitioned for a badge and were denied by the previous Commish.

K3VIN PM me if you have any questions, and if you plan to continue with the CF then enure that you don't release, I would advise you to go SRR until you at least finish RFT. Then depending on where you are posted get back in.

Interesting,a couple of years ago I had a little to do with the
French Gendarmes and noticed that a large number of them
were wearing French para wings I asked if they were all ex-paras
and was told that as they were under the control of the Dept.of
Defence they were allowed to attend para courses and qualify.
Incidentally the CRS are the real tough cops, riot control,anti-
terror etc.are under the control of the Dept.of the Interior.

On a somewhat related topic, an OPP guy dropped into Victoria Barracks awhile back in his dress uniform. I noticed that he was wearing red wings, along with a few medals - one from Somalia and another one or two from the former Yugoslavia.

I had never seen it before, but then again I had never seen an OPP dress uniform before, and I figured that it was common practice for these sorts of thing.

We can wear it on our Ontario Corrections dress uniform..........now if I just had a spare 600 bucks.

Pretty much every organization that wears a uniform, or has a dress uniform (Police, Fire, EMS, Commissionaires, Scouts, St. John), allows its member to wear medals/awards that are listed in the Canadian Honours System (as many of these organizations have specific honours thier members may receive, and some honours can be awarded to ordinary civillians).  Items suchs such Para-wings, EOD badges etc. are not in the Honours system however, so its up to the individual organization to decide whether or not it will allow its member to continue to wear items earned in the CF for example (or has as been pointed out people will do it whether or not they are actually allowed to).
