Wow, so that's what a $500 billion dollar defense budget gets you.

Pretty cool shit.

LandWarrior was just Zero funded.
  (basically dead)
Also Canada, Australia and Britian where also invested into LW -- we'd send guys down to Benning to play with the gizmos, and we had a LO cell there for LW.

I find it hard to believe they'd kill a project that's been in development for 15 years without actually testing it in Iraq first.

Looks like it may see service yet.....

Exerpt from Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Warrior

The SI (Stryker Interoperable) version of the system completed US Army testing as of November 2004. Due to limited resources, and issues with the overall weight of the system, Land Warrior was cancelled by the Army in February 2007. Despite the system's cancellation the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) will be deployed to Iraq as part of the Spring 2007 "surge" of US forces, and will use Land Warrior, on which they have trained for the past year.[3]

Dude -- its a neat system in principle but then so was OICW...

From using parts of it

-- its not ready for the big time yet -- and we have better things to do with our money than spend it on checking email in a firefight.  The systems and subsystems are still to big and bulky and the system engineers etc. dont have a firm grasp on what the fighting man needs
