I'm currently in the process of writing a memo for my requested OT and I'm not entirely sure what I should put in the body/main part of the memo. Can anybody help me out with this?

I am assuming you know the format for a memo.  For an OT memo you don't have to make it complicated.  Just put what trade you are looking to OT to, if you have any skills or courses relevent to that trade and maybe why you want to OT.

I have the format down and thats exactly what I wanted to know, thank you very much. I also put in the unit I want to transfer into; is that fine or should it be left out? And do you know what the current/new name (trade name) is for SIGOP's ? I thought it changed but I'm not entirely sure.

I doubt that putting what unit you wish to go to will do anything in an OT memo. Your new trade will make that decision so it's them you'll want to be asking.

Alright, thank you for the information.

Agree.  IMO, that is something you'll want to save for your PSO interview, not that it will have any bearing on your posting IF you get selected.  But just as part of the interview itself.

If you don't mind me asking what trade  are you now?

Currently a combat engineer. When I joined I only knew about engineers and infantry and didn't do any research into the trade. The reason I joined engineers was only because I had friends in the unit and that was it. I love the unit and all but I just finished a comms course and I loved it, its more my thing really and its more applicable to the career Im going to go into civi side.

Before you go any further, you need to see the BPSO. He'll check you out and see if you're qualified for the remuster and if the trade is going to accept you.

Just write the memo requesting to see the BPSO regarding remuster options. He'll help you with the rest after that.

3 trades (Sig Op, LCIS Tech, and Linemen)  were amalgamated into ACISS;  Army Communication and Information Systems Specialist.

Already have that step done and I do qualify for the trade and I was than told by two different officers (one from my current unit and one from the one ill be transferring into) that I have to now write a memo requesting and OT.

Are you Res or Reg?  I only ask as I can hardly see how someone can tell you you'll be going to X unit before you even get the OT.  As with anything else, the CF will send you where they need you.

Im Res. And the reason ill be going to that unit is because here in NL, the comms squadron (728)  barely has anybody...I think they have enough pers to field a single troop and that is all so they need pers badly whereas every other unit here on the base has a decent number of pers.

Ok that changes things.

The applicable CFAO for you is CFAO 49-11.

IAW CFA0 49-11, Annex B -- Transfers, para's 6 & 7 are your starting point from a documentation standpoint.  From there, your unit will know what to do and you won't see much, if any of that process, between the Comm Sqn, 56 FES, 37 CBG HQ G1 shop and LFAA HQ.

Good luck!

Thank you greatly! It is very much appreciated!

Wait out, I misread the CFA0, interpretting "transfer" as "occupational transfer".

Replace Annex B with Annex C --Remuster, para's 5 & 6.   What I said earlier will still apply (as you will be transferring units as well, within the same command) but you are requesting remuster and transfer.  Your CofC will guide you on your memo once you have your draft one done.  However, you know atleast one of your ref's should be CFAO 49-11.

Again...good luck!

Thanks again, I sort of figured as much.

Any sample ed&t memos out there?

Namely what is the proper code to put at the top of the memo?

It's "your" memo but you can always use your SN or the last three (eg:  123 (Pers)  ).

The originator of the correspondence has discretion.

Did you bother to look at the top of this BOARD and see:

According to ref (excerpt below), you only need to fill out the Annex A request for ED&T (link provided - DWAN only).  All ED&T requests at this Bde and higher only use that form, readily available online at any unit.  It has an area for you to provide the reason.  You only need to visit your unit  orderly room to have them complete it.  If your unit still wants a memo, well, I guess that's up to them.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for the specific governing body that details the laws pertaining to Canadian Forces memorandums.  I am at a unit where I have been directed to submit 9 memos for various things I have needed/wanted.  My issue is that 7 of them have, "Gone missing," and the two that were returned had been modified in pen in the Addressee block so that they would never get to the person I addressed them to (CO through CoC).  My understanding was that memorandums were a legally bound document once signed, am I wrong?  Am I entitled to address a memo to my CO?  Is it legal for them to continuously quash these?  I don't want to file a grievance or redress the memos, as my trade is entirely too political and there is entirely too little protection for such actions, it might have too much of an impact on my career.  I'm kinda trapped in the system here, and am getting quite frustrated with a lack of representation.  Worst of all it's really starting to affect my attitude, and it's a shame because I really do love what I do.  Your help/feedback is greatly appreciated.
