A Deeply Fractured US

The 2020 US Presidential Election has been LOCKED since 14 Nov., 2020. Why keep bringing it up?
Still locked for the weekend I see.

US President trying to explain something about Russia (ignore the preamble, or don't)

Can we either unlock this thread or delete it so it stops getting brought up that it's locked?

Nothing new here.

US Presidential Election 2020 has been LOCKED for eight ( 8 ) months.

I'm not the one who locked it. But, presumably it was LOCKED, and remains locked, for a reason.

Biden really seems underwhelming. He comes across as a befuddled grandpa more than a quick-witted and confident world leader. He also seems subservient to his staff.

What do you expect, he is only a puppet and should have been allowed to gracefully retire. Scary that this is the best the Dems have to offer.

Leaving aside the theories/wishful thinking that he's suffering from any kind of exceptional age-related decline, the simple and obvious explanation is merely that he is old, and therefore tires easily and his mind is unable to follow matters at the pace required.

The handful of people of that age I know well have all expressed that, around age 75, they found themselves tiring much more easily. I suppose there's a knee in the curve that hits most people in their mid-70s - you get used to a certain amount of decline (fatigue) every year, and then suddenly it declines more rapidly.

Biden is 78. People have commented that the presidency didn't seem to have worn Trump out the way it does most people, but Trump is 75 right now. I can guess that in a year or two Trump will start to fade away.

They likely have better. But the system isn’t designed for better. Or the better ones have no interest in that job.

That’s the real sad part about a lot of national leadership types. Would be nice to see younger not older but that’s just me. But I would add younger, dynamic and competent as know where talking “younger” will open a few derailment doors lol.

Like AOC, who has two of the three attributes.

The Democrats are in the last stages of what is both an ideological scrap and intergenerational scrap (ie. establishment faction and more progressive faction, both of which line up approximately along generational lines). Fairly soon I expect control to tip over to the younger, more urgently progressive faction. To some it will look like a sudden leftward lurch, because there is a built-in time step (the four year presidential election cycle). Some of the people Democrats need to form a stronger centrist faction are still fighting the lost cause to reassert control over the Republican party (eg. the ex-neocons who think they can burn down the Republican party and rebuild it to suit themselves), but get them talking about foreign affairs and it takes them about 30 seconds to spin up over the necessity to remain mired in conflict abroad, which most people in the US are shot of.

So younger leadership is coming, probably in 2024.

2 California Men Have Been Charged With Plotting To Bomb A Democratic Party Building

Two California men who were angry about former President Donald Trump's 2020 election loss have been indicted on charges they plotted to firebomb the Democratic Party's headquarters in Sacramento.

Absolutely no surprise here. Lie enough to your cult following and they're bound to get violent. Once the Arizona audit is further exposed as the farce it is more of these terrorists are going to come out of the woodwork.

There is so going to be so much space in the center of US politics in the next 4-8 years and yet the two parties will make sure nobody takes advantage of it.

BINGO!!! Who would want any political job where you and your family are subjected to the bullshit that goes on.

I think that's still understating what we're seeing from him. Like Colin said, he's a puppet at this point.

The mainstream media seems really hesitant to report anything on it. Maybe they're being good Americans and not bringing attention to any percieved or real weakness in the Whitehouse. Thoughtful.

The 25th Amendment can be invoked.

But, only by politicians. Not brain specialists.

Much has been written about invoking it during these last few years.

Undoubtedly he is susceptible to pressure. (Try to imagine what it must be like in that White House, with people pushing different agendas.) But he doesn't look anywhere near incapacitated. The Democrats are probably stuck with him through 2024 unless he dies suddenly. It's going to cost them at the polls.

I'm trying to imagine what it must be like at 0300 Hrs. when that red phone - or whatever they use - goes off at a president's - any president's - bedside.

Three o'clock in the morning courage, I believe Bonaparte thought was rarest.

The Democrats are probably stuck with him through 2024 unless he dies suddenly. It's going to cost them at the polls.

Buyer's remorse?
