2007 Basic Military pay Charts

Retired folks got 3.3% cost of living adjustment. These bumps are very good long term. My dad retired as a Colonel in 74 and today his monthly retirement check is far more than what he made when he left active service. Kind of like the magic of compound interest.  :)

Heh.  An E-5 with 2 years service earns $1977.90.

In 1968, as an Sp-5 in Vietnam, I made exactly $450 a month, including separation allowance and hostile fire pay.  I don't remember what the base pay was -- probably around $275 a month.

I had few expenses, so most of the money went to my wife.  Uncle Sam provided food and shelter in a sauna-like environment.  Charlie provided the entertainment.
