hey,

I was watching CBC today and there was some file footage of Canadian Arty in Afghanistan doing a fire mission..but they were 105's. I was told that we only had the m-777 over there right now, does any one know if there is a Battery of 105's over there as well? also the gunners were wearing greens??

If they're wearing green it's probably old stock footage.

Piker is right.  You don't want to openly speculate on what we have in our toolchest, lest the bad guys read this forum.

( I know they do, as the Taliban truly believe that a Haggis is a nocturnal highland predator akin to a wolverine.)

When you watch the news, if it isn't LIVE, it is stock footage from their 'vaults'.  That means that anyone who knows anything about AFV Recognition is going to freak out, because no one at CBC, CTV, A Channel, City TV, or any of the other Media outlets does.  What you saw could have been footage that was four, ten, twenty years old.  It is 'fluff' to fill their presentation, and keep the civvies interested.  It is hardly ever accurate, or reflects the current equipment, uniforms, etc. in use.

oh ok I did not realise that news crews did that just to fill their report. Thanks for the info.

Anyway.... even if we do nave 105s in Afghanistan...... so what?

The US Army has deployed 105's to Afghanistan.

yeah but he's a herbivore ;D

:skull: Our boys just came back and were using the triple 7, i would think the g1's wouldn't be very practical considering the elements and their history of high maintenance?

105s can be slung under Griffons, M777s need a Chinook to do same....
then again, you don't have to have a 155 in the immediate area to get fire for effect.

105 were used while in Kabul.
777s were only bought about the time we moved to Kandahar

The SP besides the Triple 7, what country does it belong? Is it 155 or 105?,barrel has me confused.

It's a Krauss-Maffei PzH 2000 operated by the Dutch.  It's 155mm.
