Anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months. For non-commissioned members, about $90/day (or $45/half-day) before tax.

Car and motorcycle insurance - Ontario

TD Meloche Monnex is pretty good. Especially good if you belong to an organization, e.g. a university student/graduate, a professional engineer, belong to Canadian Military Engineers Association (if you're a combat engineer, join this), to name a few. Being part of an organization will get you...

    Autobiography Thread (merged)

Yeah, don't worry about it, you will be given bio instructions while on course. You will have to write, and re-write, and possibly again re-write it. It will be a sh!t show that will turn into a funny memory.

Strictly speaking - no. But I find it's a better look than wearing your interview dress shoes with PT gear. :)

    Interview advice (merged)

Applicants are still overthinking this step. It's just a job interview like any other! You dress appropriately (business or business casual), act appropriately (sit up straight, speak in respectful manner), and come prepared (know general things about your trades and the CAF, know how to answer...

Medical Rejection: How to Appeal? [Merged]

If you note in the thread you referenced, the individual was found medically unfit, and was advised the reasoning would be mailed to him. I was not aware this is done, but looks like it's only in the "unfit" case anyway. Last I know of (I was in application process just last year), you are not...

Medical Rejection: How to Appeal? [Merged]

You aren't sent any medical letters from Ottawa directly. Your medical results are sent from your recruiting centre to Ottawa for review. The approval (hopefully) is then sent from Ottawa back to your recruiting centre, and your recruiting centre lets you know what the next step is.

Suit/business attire for the interview, and t-shirt/shorts for the medical. You will be given a chance to change.

    Questions about joining the Reserves

Or longer. In addition, the date you enrol is likely to be determined by when the next local BMQ serial is scheduled to run. I remember I would inquire about my application during the summer months and it wasn't getting much traction, but then things really started moving in the fall as I was...

Two-week full time BMQ-L is offered to our unit this summer.

    Questions about joining the Reserves

Keep in mind application process takes forever. If this is something you know you want, consider applying several months sooner than you intent to "begin". It will get the process rolling and reduce the gap in wait.

    Improved Combat Uniform

Agreed. What I meant was, because sizing has two parts - length and width - it took some time wearing the items to actually determine the correct size combinations for each. All comes with experience.

    Improved Combat Uniform

As I'm fairly new in the army, I've had to make a few trips to my clothing stores in recent months to dial in my correct size for combat tunic and pants. In the end, I've found the right sizes, and was issued 3 brand new pairs of 'new style' pants and 3 quite worn 'old style' tunics. I have a...

mendozajoshua92 asks questions about becoming an Engineer

I have a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and work as a mechanical engineer on the civvy side. After all my research, I chose to join as a Combat Engineer (NCM) in the Reserves. I could have joined as an Officer too but the NCM side was more in line with what I wanted to achieve and how...

If ShoddyGunner could return to clarify the questions asked in this thread, it would be helpful to everyone here trying to understand. We don't want to go down the ignorant path.

    Yelling at BMQ

I wouldn't not do the course just because you feel you may have an issue with yelling. Most people seem to adjust quickly. I don't know the details of your past, but perhaps you will be able to look at military yelling not as a reminder of something hurtful but as a positive thing - a mechanism...

    Transgender in the CF (merged)

Bottom line is, you want to be in the army, so you're going to go through with it. And you will deal with whatever circumstances come your way. There's no exact way to predict what's going to happen. Hopefully you'll be lucky to meet good people along the way. If you meet some jerks, there...

    Transgender in the CF (merged)

I have not come across this particular situation. However, based on my own BMQ experience, I would say you will be a part of the group as much as anyone else there. We have guys and girls, short and tall, various levels of fitness, aptitude and physical fitness, and everyone is part of the team...

    Yelling at BMQ

Not as much yelling as you see Marine drill instructors do on YouTube. But there's yelling. Definitely. Can be stressful at first, becomes easier with each day, until it's part of the routine. Stay calm and listen to what is being said/yelled, and just follow the instructors. Speak loudly and...
