"America does not need the Air Force" - does Canada?

I can't see it being very useful in terms of operations in general.  The RCAF hasn't shown any issues integrating with either element (unless you're trying to get air force kit :P), since squadrons are more or less attached to an army or navy base if they're specific to their operations.  I...

Access to gym at St. Jean / BMQ / BMOQ

During your course you will have course PT which PSP staff will coordinate.  Typically you will not be allowed to do your own routine.  However, there are some PSP staff that will allow you to "push yourself" and do something more technical as long as there is the space, time, and you...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

Might I add, Ditching the old "spoon-fed" high school "ask and you shall receive" technique may be of use to you in the future.  If it weren't for digging around, I would have lacked some fairly important knowledge and skills going into my interview and CAPSS. This would have ultimately made me...

Caffeine pills - they're bad mmmkay

I have used caffeine pills before, and there is a distinct difference between them, coffee and even energy drinks.  My guess is that...since no one can ingest 2 large coffees in a single gulp, it must be harder to manage.  Oh boy do I remember when I got jumped off the "caffeine train".  I...

Sept 2012: U.S. Ambassador in Libya and two others killed in attack of consulate

LOL...this will haunt Canadians for years to come. Popular factors in rioting: - Religion - Monarchies - Governments - The 1% - Hockey????? (maybe its just included in "Canadian Religion")

Sept 2012: U.S. Ambassador in Libya and two others killed in attack of consulate

Yep you're absolutely right.  I'm currently reading through the Qur'an to try to understand what on earth could incite such violent reactions to nothing but an unoriginal troll. That being said.  If the battered woman knows something will trigger her husband to harm her, she would be wise to do...

BMQ / BMOQ - Personal Electronics during course [MERGED]

Agreed.  I'd say delete everything from mid-page 15 onwards, but I quite enjoyed the excellent lessons being taught to the self-pitying. I'll go ahead and put things back on topic. According to the CFLRS guide, you are allowed cell phones on weekends of weeks 1, 2 and 3.  (Does that include...

    BMQ Shopping

I wondered the same thing.  Then I thought: If "X" meant nothing, it wouldn't be on the list.  If "X" meant a certain amount, they would have specified a number.  So finally I thought: "X" must mean "variable", or "as many as you want" or "as many as you need", etc... This was done through...

Alleged Institutional Racism/solutions in CAF (merged)

That's exactly the point, different families will work differently.  My inclination would be to look at environment and individual family dynamics/history, rather than normalize over an entire culture.  If a family shames military service, that's just how it is, but if the entire environment is...

Alleged Institutional Racism/solutions in CAF (merged)

To be fair, I do not believe there are many ethnicities, including English/French Canadians that aren't family oriented.  I don't think there is a single military person that did not find it difficult being away from their family, whether it being their parents, brothers, sisters, children...

    August 20 BMQ

I briefly read my CFLRS instructions last night, and am currently under the impression we had to buy our shampoo and soap at the CANEX in Saint-Jean? No laptop?  A lot of my military friends said there's quite a bit of spare time near the end of your course, especially if you stay behind on a...

Minimalist PT Shoes (Vibram FF, Merrell Gloves, etc) for BMOQ

I just looked them up.  Nice shoe.  Although if they have any cushioning/shock absorbtion in the sole, the 6mm differential could pose a lac of stability for olympic lifts, especially compared to vibrams and weightlifting shoes.

Minimalist PT Shoes (Vibram FF, Merrell Gloves, etc) for BMOQ

I've used the Bikala LS, the KomodoSport, the Speed and the KSO. The Bikala LS had the "Draw String Velcro Tab".  Very convenient, but the velcro tab eventually ripped off.  Not that it changed much.  The Bikala is probably the lightest of them all, and by far my favorite platform for running...
