Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

Just got a date for the PLQ Residential.  I know what the PLQ is obviously but the residential portion of that title is a bit confusing. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? HH

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

With regards to the ongoing flight testing, does anyone know if the OBOGS on the F-35 has created the same issues as on the F-22.  I have found several articles referencing the "Raptor Cough" (made famous now by 60 minutes) from the F-22 pilots but nil about the F-35.  Anyone know if it is the...

450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Is Reborn

Agreed.  As an ex-combat arms soldier I fully agree that the Tac Hel community does not do enough "actual Army" training as you've termed it.  Every time we go to the range, I have to show pilots how their 9mm pieces all fit together!  Most of the ACs we had over seas acquired all of their...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Well said.  100% agree here. Is this the best platform for ISR and EW?  I think recent conflicts have proven that UAV and retrofitted civil aircraft (ie. King Air) can complete these tasks considerably better at drastically reduced cost so not sure that ISR and EW are the best selling points...

Fantino's comments look like the beginning of the end.  Anyone else getting deja-vu from the EH-101? http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/TopStories/20120313/fantino-fighter-jets-120313/

    .50 on CF helicopters

DG is becoming an off shoot specialty (similar to Cbt Diver or Jumper) and will most likely be called Air Gnr - with roots to WWII Air Gunners on the bombers.  It will be manned solely by Cbt Arms NCMs, Cpl - Sgt with a WO potentially as section comd.  Tour experience preferred as they are the...

450 Tactical Helicopter Squadron Is Reborn

Be careful what you wish for!  The Aussie CH 47's have difficulty getting and keeping their hours since it all comes out of the same pot of money from the Army brass.  As being a separate unit but under operational control of the Army, we get the best of both worlds.  The Army cannot easily...

Re: Disability on course - BMQ, QL, Trades, ect...[MERGED]

Tape, I am sure you would make a fine pilot.  It sure sounds like you are over-qualified now.  But the big question is "Can you play beach volleyball with dudes?"  8) I would think Flight Engineer may be a bit out of your league however...  >:D

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Haletown: That seems like a lot of opinion in your post.  I am far from a supporter of the Ottawa Press Corps or definitely the NDP but you just didn't seem to add anything constructive to the conversation other than conjecture.  I really appreciate this thread since almost all of the posts are...

    CH47 Chinook

No word on any posting messages as of yet.  I do know that it is on the table to be discussed at the FE STA conference this upcoming week however.  Hopefully the CMs have some news.

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Not sure if this should be posted in a different thread but this is a very interesting article on F-35 vs X-47B (UCAV).  I am not going to farm for quotes either way but to have Super Hornets and X-47Bs when they come fully online sounds like the ideal to me.  Have a read...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

So if the Americans are starting to cut their #'s because of cost over-runs ($136-140M/copy with engines), I wonder if we may do the same. Looks like one of two options: - cut numbers of copies or bump up the budget (political suicide over a jet very few John Q Public want in the first place). HH

    Air Mobile Army

Just a quick step into the what-if zone here.  Has thought been given to making 2 Brigade (or more accurately parts thereof) into a dedicated airmobile element.  I realize that the entire Combat Arms element should have this capability to some extent but I am thinking more of developing...

    F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF)

Although initial purchase cost is not the largest factor here, it is a considerable one.  You make a good point but it is not like there is one large purse with F-35 cash in it. All of the points you mentioned come from different wallets from within that purse so it is not quite as cut and dry...

Viking Air Ltd - Twin Otter

My bad, been a few years since my twotter days!  Maybe I was thinking of Bull Moose!  Either way, I can remember days of landing there when it was rather sporty... Point being, just wondering if anybody has any personal experience on the Spartan as to its STOL capabilities HH

Viking Air Ltd - Twin Otter

What is the min landing distance for the C27J?  I know that Kimmirut airstrip is about 1200ft or so, which is one of the smallest I have ever landed on in the north (that was an actual airstrip anyways).  Not sure that there are many shorter than that.  Depending on the winds, even the Giant...
