Various Problems with The Cormorants- Merged

There is a detailed article explaining the Cormorant tail rotor half hub problem in the Summer 2005 issue of flight comment. See page 18 of: http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/dfs/pdf/Flight_Comment/2005/Summer2005_e.pdf

    PT prep.

Not implying you are  :) I'll be facing the same challenges I mentioned in about a week. I disagree with this, you earned the wings, they should be on your uniform day one. Mine will, and my CD, I believe we can meet the challenges I mentioned without hiding our qualification and past...

    BFT

Just curious, your unit doesn't have time alloted for PT in garrison? To address the topic, I think that if the BFT is the fitness standard for CF members, then PT year round should be a constant "work up" for the BFT. Of course, some pers, due to courses/leave/deployment/injury etc. may have...

    PT prep.

No it is not comparable. BMQ/IAP/BOTP require a lower standard of fitness than the Basic Para course. If you have a your basic para from cadets then fitness probably won't be a challenge.  That being said, keeping your mouth shut, learning, fitting in with the team, and leading when appropriate...

Anyone out there going to IAP in May?

From the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School Joining Instructions: http://www.cflrs.forces.gc.ca/english/officers/ralliement/IAP-BOTP-joining-ang.pdf Initial assessment period (IAP) and Basic officer training period (BOTP) Briefly, IAP = introduction to the military, BOTP =...

    Officer Recruitment Specifics?

The nav test uses some math and physics. The simulator test for pilots is as oulined in the study guide, there is no other tests (as of Sept. 2004). For pilot, while some math and physics may help, we see several examples on this forum of CF Pilots who don't have math/physics/Comp sci/eng...

    Officer Recruitment Specifics?

I went in September. I have a few hours but no license. Your hands and feet work the controls the same way for the same effect but basic flying lessons teach you to fly mostly looking out of the cockpit (VFR) and the simulator test is all instruments. Also, the simulator controls are much more...

    Requirements for Airforce Pilot

When I did AS last fall two of the candidates were doing it for the second time after a failure. In order to be allowed the second chance they had to complete their private pilot licenses. Duey, I've been enjoying your posts, any further insight into CF pilot trg (and especially how to do well)...

Military Brats Born Oversea's Not Canadian's?! Even if in a Canadian overseas hospital!?!

This is my life, I was born in that time period (before 1970) at the British Army Hospital, Iserlohn. The birth certificate was a DND Certificate of Birth (DND 419) (signed wth that three colour pen that they used to use on the Permanent CF ID card) which looks very official but is only an...

    Officer Recruitment Specifics?

I'll take a shot at a few of these. I've accepted an offer for pilot and I start my BOTP in March. The Air Force has a good site: http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/pilot/index_e.asp On my Aircrew Selection (ASC) week (last Sept.) none of the 7 of us had been being processed for less than 6...

I think this paper, The CC130 Hercules is misemployed in the Search and Rescue role. by Maj Spurgeon Stewart, provides some interesting background. Enjoy: http://198.231.69.12/papers/csc29/exnh/stewart.htm

Thanks for the info Courtney, I hope I get to Portage as quickly as you :) Keep us posted. Uh oh, don't know if I could take going flying over sitting in a classroom for 6 months... (would insert smiley but it would break my no more than one annoying graphic per post rule). Bograt, are you...

    Portage FEB 20

Congrats Coutrney! Looks like I'll be joining Bograt for the BOTP portion of his IAP/BOTP course and I'm a little curious about what happens after. Did you do second language trg after BOTP? Were you officially (they paid for your move) posted to 438 THS? How long from BOTP to second lang trg...

I live in Ottawa and connect to the internet from home via a DSL line to my ISP, Magma (www.magma.ca). I have excellent connectivity to the dnd site. For instance, viewing a movie, like Carl Gustav, from http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/English/3_2.asp# the video starts almost instantaneously...

Allergies in the CAF 2003 - 2015 [Merged]

Anecdotally, there seems to be more allergies, especially peanuts, and awareness about them now then when you (and even more so, me) were in elementary school. There are a lot of theories as to why this may be the case, be very critical of what you read. However, for those of us who don't...

    Hi, New Here

I would consider not joining the reserves. For a few reasons: you sound like you need/want a full time career and income after you graduate you are relatively near graduation (your application time to the CF may exceed your time in school) even if you have another year in school If you were...
