I understand the price tag probably includes a maintenance and support contract or even life-cycle support, but it wasn't stated in the press release, even still what was the base-line truck cost?  how much of a supply parts block was included with the purchase?

Opinion: Time for Civilians to Make War Sacrifices, Too?

Basically on the economic level it isn't necessary for the American public to make the same sacrifaces as in past wars.  The United States is stupidly rich country and though our defense budget is ~200 billion it is small compared to our annual budget ~3 trillion, and still small compared to our...

Problems with USMC's Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle

The problem is not with the vehicle, or vehicle concept but the procurement system.    The EFV is light years ahead of the AAV and any other AFV.  And minus tanks it will be able to defeat armor threat out there.

Problems with USMC's Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle

Some generalized problems with any large multi-year acquistion programs, - Companies often have to sub-contract alot the design and parts acquistion in making these test vehicles.  So when you have multiple sub-contractors making parts at slightly different specs, they need to be fitted on...

New .50 Cal For Kingston Class?

In regards to storing deck mounted weapons at sea, if you use a canvas gunbag (non-plastic treated) soaked in lube and a healthy amount of lube on machine-gun this low tech method works really well at keeping away the effect of condensation, sea spray and air.

    Interesting sidenote on the C-17

Zoomie quote "completely useless" eh? Your right landing C-17 on a grass landing strip isn't going happen, so we eliminate all of the unpaved runways from the evaluation, because it is not worth the effort to eliminate the runways with inefficient soil density to land a strategic lifter.  So we...
