PM Quoted Saying He Doesn't Like to Watch CAN News

I can't believe how publicized this non-issue has become. As people in this forum have already mentioned, I think we'd all avoid watching the news if our faces showed up during every broadcast. Although Mansrbridge did sound pretty upset...

Canadian Geese Added to Terror Watch List

Hilarious satirical article about Bush's war-mongering policies in light of US Airways crash into the Hudson river: http://informedvote.ca/2009/01/canadian-geese-added-to-terror-watch-list/ With Bush at the helm, anything is possible. Thankfully Obama takes over very shortly.

Harper and his upcoming budget - is it the coalition killer?

The upcoming budget will either make or break the conservative party. If the budget is successful, they will likely remain in power. If it is not, an election is very likely to be the result given Ignatieff's comments about the coalition. But you never know, if the budget fails, Ignatieff...

CUPE Leader Sid Ryan's Anti Israel Comments Spark Outrage - Empty Apology Makes it Worse

People across the country are calling for action to be taken against Sid Ryan for his racist marks against Israel. There is no doubt that someone needs to step in and remove him from his post. His empty apology satisfies nobody and his stance on the issue is still the same...

Israel strikes Hard at Hamas In Gaza- Dec/ 27/ 2008

You'd think Canada would learn from the mistakes it made in trying to help Canadians out of Lebanon during the 2006 Lebanon war. Unfortunately they didn't. Canada again acted too late in helping Canadians out of Gaza while other countries were able to get their nationals out. Now 39 Canadians...

Nova Scotia to Offer Fitness Tax Credit

Most of you seem to like the idea of a fitness tax credit and feel it is justified. But would such an initiative actually increase people's health? In other words, does it provide a big enough incentive for people who are not enrolled in any fitness activities to actually enroll, or does it...

Nova Scotia will now be offering up to $500 worth of tax credits for enrolling in fitness activities: http://informedvote.ca/2009/01/nova-scotia-to-offer-fitness-tax-credit/ Is this really a justified use of our tax dollars?

    Let them fail!

Canada announced just hours ago a plan to contribute $4 Billion to Canadian subsidiaries of the Big Three US automakers. You can an article about it here: http://informedvote.ca/2008/12/canada-approves-4-billion-auto-bailout-plan/#more-330 What do you guys think about this decision. Is it...

Tory minority in jeopardy as opposition talks coalition. Will there be another election?

In a poll conducted this week, if Canada were to hold an election now, The Conservatives would win a strong election. Full results of the poll here: http://informedvote.ca/2008/12/torries-take-commanding-lead-in-new-poll/ I think the author brought up a good point - Canada's shift in opinion...

Quebec Election Chart With Party Stances on Major Issues

Tomorrow, Quebec will be holding its provincial elections. I found a great resource that greatly aided me in my decision of who I am going to vote for. The following is a link that outlines the major political party's in Quebec and where each party stands in regards to many of the issues that...

Tory minority in jeopardy as opposition talks coalition. Will there be another election?

It's unforunate Canada could go through another election, especially when the left is all about doing what's right for our economy. Spending another $300+ million on an election is NOT right for our economy. The Canadian public spoke a few weeks ago and decided to go with a Conservative minority.

New Ontario Laws for Young Drivers

I'm totally for making our roads safer, because their not at all right now. However, these proposals are completely unfair for younger drivers (and I say younger because a 19, 20 or 21 year old is not a youth). They are based on age descrimination and in my opinion is not the best way to go...

    India (Superthread)

The terrorist attacks in Mumbai this past week were extremly tragic. What scares me even moreso, however, is that something like that could happen here in Canada or the United States, and Canada could be to blame for it just like Pakistan is being blamed by India. Canada is seen as a safe haven...

Thanks for the heads up Kat, I didn't notice it before.

Electoral Reform (Senate, Commons, & Gov Gen)

I think we need a proportional representation system. It's simply not fair that when 7% of Canadians vote for the Green Party, as an example, not 1 seat is earned.

Is a coalition government fair for the Canadian public?

We just had an election and the public has spoken. The Conservatives earned their minority government. Is it fair that by next week, a coalition of the Liberals, NDP and Bloc could be running our country. Dion would be Prime Minister, and didn't we decide just weeks ago that he was not a fit...

Tory minority in jeopardy as opposition talks coalition. Will there be another election?

It scares me to think that the Liberals and NDP would join the Bloc, a separitist party, in order to form a coalition. What does that say about their integrity?
