I joined Air Cadets in February 1990 and wore green for the first year and a half, by the time I went to camp in 1991 I was in blue but we still wore the green shoulder flashes till the blue ones were received. At least for my squadron there was no difference between the green and blue flashes...
Last time i wore shorts at sea was 2012, and with sea boots not sandals. It looked amazing.
**** Edit was due to me getting old and not remembering the right year ****
If you look at the kids in that first picture, they look like they are trying to cover their eyes to avoid the sight of the abomination of that uniform.
Ultimately, whether we agree or disagree it is our responsibility to follow the direction that has been provided to us. I for one will not be partaking but that is a personal choice.
Yeah there was quite the issue around that, I remember the CO coming on the Shincom and asked if we wanted to go in port or stay out to beat VANCOUVER, obviously we went into port. in for like 7 days back out to sea for around 60 (59 day I think) and then outchop.
For me it will depend on what they come out with, I hate shaving everyday but the red (and a little grey caused by subordinates) of the sides of my beard give away the fact that I'm not as blond (or young) as my hair makes me look. With a goatee it doesn't really show anything.
