I looked into this as well, and played as a civilian augmentee with several regiment bands. Reg bands (there are only a few) are extremely hard to get in to. From what I've been told, pretty much the only way to get in to one is to first get in to a reserve band, wait for an opening, and then...

I really used to dislike the pipes, until I started playing in regiment bands. Now, I'll listen to them whenever I can. One of my favorites - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3KDU3jOxcE - it's not very fancy, but it was played by Piper James Richardson as he piped troops over the top in WWI.

Do you have a link to the video? We might be able to figure out what tunes they're playing.

Well, after doing a short parade last Saturday, there are only two yellowish helmets in the band. You can only tell when they are right beside each other... I'll just have to wait until more become available, and then exchange it for a newer one. I find that the new helmets don't yellow, it's...
