Note also BGen Eric Tremblay, Deputy Commanding General, I Corps.  He is currently in Afghanistan an ISAF spokesman but will be returning to I Corps next May.

Is This Liberal Mailout A Slap In The Face To Those Who Serve?

FWIW, I have recently received (at least three times) Conservative Party mailouts with a Harper/Ignatieff/Layton 'ballot' to be mailed in.

    Legal Officer Recruiting [Merged]

I don't think such an option exists - sadly for me, a law student joining the PRes. The CFRC told me that JAG is usually looking for experienced lawyers - not people right out of law school - so it wouldn't make much sense for them to subsidize legal education.

    Interview advice (merged)

Scfs123, I can't speak to the issue of reopening applications, but the BackCheck requirement has indeed changed.  You're going to need five references who have each known you at least five years / since 16. In my case, this changed requirement led to lower-quality references.  I moved cities...

Pay: Statements, Backpay, Benefits, Deductions (Taxes, T4), Deployed ect... [MERGED]

People with extensive educational credentials - like doctors, dentists, nurses, engineers, etc. - may also have significant debt from student loans.  If you're paying $15,000 a year on your student loans, it's pretty hard to raise a family on a 2Lt's salary.

    F-22 Collides With Parked CF-18

Working article link While it's an interesting idea to bring in old RCAF folks to do the investigation (I presume it's a cost saving measure), I'm concerned that their CF-101 and CF-104 experience might not be directly applicable to this incident. ;)

    RFT abolished?

It's been about six months since we saw the CFLRS Week 0 requirements go up.  If they're abolishing RFT/WFT now, I guess it didn't help much.

Profs say students lack maturity, feel entitled

I wonder to what extent this reflects the fact that simply more people are going to university than in the past.  Assuming aptitude is correlated with preparedness, if you bring more people in, your average level of preparedness is going to go down.

    A Scary Bedtime Short Story

Well, I'm unimpressed.  The 'future storyline' is little more than a rant about the menace of Islam, but taken to an extreme that would make Mark Steyn roll his eyes.  It's been dressed up as a short story, but it's clearly not intended for entertainment - and in that sense it reminds me of the...

Army releases new doctrine for land operations

So it turns out some of this information is publicly viewable after all, through the Army Electronic Library.  I'll leave the link here for anyone who runs across this thread in the future.

    Toronto Reserve Recruiting

Are you talking about the recruiters at the CFRC?  I think the general rule is, don't ever expect to hear back from a CFRC.  You need to call them, and if you don't get through to a person, try again later.  And of course, going in to the centre in person boosts your chances of getting what you...

    Britain Must Reduce Its Population

Are you being flippant in your proposed solution?  If so, it is a hateful and unnecessary comment.  If not, you would have Britain take a page on religious liberty from Saudi Arabia.

Battlestar Galactica (Beware....Possible SPOILERS! read at your own risk)

Oh, another thing.  The part where the brave character, leaving on what appears to be a suicide mission, gives a symbolic token of his leadership to an underling, and upon returning, the underling gives it back, claiming that it didn't suit him?  Brutally cliché.  No one's pulled that off...

Battlestar Galactica (Beware....Possible SPOILERS! read at your own risk)

COLONISTS:  We're so tired of resource shortages, constant war, and bleak prospects for the future.  Let's settle here. LEE ADAMA:  Great idea!  And while we're at it, let's cast off all technology and live as primitive tribesmen, thereby ensuring resource shortages, constant war, and bleak...

Army releases new doctrine for land operations

Would the Ground Manoeuvre Reconnaissance document be classified?  If not, I'd be interested in seeing a copy - I'm applying to join as an armoured officer in the fall and think that might help with the whole "what exactly does armoured recce do" issue. Incidentally, if it is classified, why...

Afghanistan: Why we should be there (or not), how to conduct the mission (or not) & when to leave

Aww, ease up, guys.  It looks like Brennan Cruse is around 10 or 11 years old.  The kid is worried about his uncle.  Let's not get too worked up about it.

Battlestar Galactica (Beware....Possible SPOILERS! read at your own risk)

Yeah, I doubt Starbuck is Daniel.  For her to be a simple cylon would be too easy.  My guess is that she is supposed to symbolize something about the future of humans and cylons, rather than the past (she was the one who found Earth, for instance).
