Does anyone still consider Artillery an area weapon?

Technology has also changed the definition of precision.  Despite the great accuracy of the latest versions of artillery weapons, unless a "precision" warhead is being fired it is, in today's parlance still an area weapon.

Injured Canadian Sailor Airlifted to Sligo

Personally, I think we owe a thank you to the RAF crew who conducted the mission to help out one of our brothers in arms.  The reporting of the story may be a tad sensationalistic, especially with the one ping line, but that doesn't take away the from the fact that this crew acted in a most...

    Aerospace Control Officers-AEC [merged]

TimBit:  MFC requires a weapons background and is at a minimum a second tour gig.  As an MFC, you are not only a controller on the boat but the Fleet Commander's senior advisor on all things air other than Sea Kings.

Airforce clerk wants to be on ship...

I Couldn't agree more with FTSO.  If the powers that be could link sea pay with being fit/unfit sea...the occurance of being unfit sea for conveiniance would deminish dramatically.  There is nothing like a 300 odd dollar kick in the wallet to put ones priorities in line.

    Canada's First CC177 gets painted

I bet you can't wait GS... I understand what you mean about the AR...I was lucky for most of the time being blissfully unaware during the AR process in the back end of the E-3.  The few times I was up front, I wished I wasn't watching!  On the other hand, I got some great naps durning the 20-30...

END of an ERA (the wedge)

Thank GOD! Nothing looks stupider than CADPAT and a wedge.  Now if only we can get a rule to ban the beret with a flight suit...which looks equally stupid IMHO

Understood...but is it the job of a Nav LCol?  methinks not ::)

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

I understand that the Nav will still be part of the crew on the Cyclone even when it is in the log / troop carrier config.  So theoretically, the sqn CO (LCol) can be on board a Cyclone manning a door gun with 20 odd troopies along for the ride.  All other flying forces (AF, Army and Navy) the...

    Possible new FIAC/CIWS option?

I think that would be a very potent anti FIAC weapon.  It doesn't even need to be aimed all that well.  The sight of a pod of CRV-7's coming anywhere near your general direction would be enough to make even the hardest terrorist bastard stain his pants and reconsider his options.

    electronic warefare moc

Having been on the boat, the emitter pods that simulate enemy radars work very well, and provide excellent NESOP training.  What is not required is the dead weight in the back seat to turn them on and off.  As for the jamming pods, they never really provided much training value IMHO, so having...

    Congrat's In Order

Congrats Globe: Question regarding training.  Will all initial C-17 training be acomplished at Altus, or will it take place in YTR once things are up and running?

    electronic warefare moc

Very little value added IMHO.  200lbs of self loading baggage on the A-jet = less onsta time and slower max speed.  Put the ON / OFF switch up front and you get the same results.  ;D

    Converting to different aircraft types....

Excellent post Globe.  Overcoming these biases of the "old school" will undoubtedly be the largest hurdle to change.
