Allergies in the CAF 2003 - 2015 [Merged]

Thanks for the advice.  My allergy is non-fatal, but rather unpleasant.  Even if you came back and said "You're totall hosed, no way out." I'd still complete the process as far as I can take it.  I'd rather pursue this as far as I can, rather than just give up.  Thanks, George.

Allergies in the CAF 2003 - 2015 [Merged]

I have an application in progress for the reserves.  From reading this thread (and others) I'm worried I'll be rejected when I reach the medical phase.  I have an allergy to nuts, but not peanuts (I'll eat Mr Big's till the cows come home).  Is that gonna bring it to a screeching halt?

Need ideas for a Canada tattoo

Nice beaver. Expanding on someone else's idea, get a Canadian coin with the year you were born.  Just do a bit of research to make sure you find out what the coin looked lke when they were minted then.  Or improvise with a custom design.  It's your skin. http://www.pcfleet.com/Coinclub/1998set.gif

Need ideas for a Canada tattoo

I've thought about getting the coat of arms for my home province (Alberta, seen as my avatar).  It's something different than the usualy flag, but still looks good and has an element of patriotism to it.

    Gatorade VS. Water?

Full agreement on Gatorade.  A couple years ago I was hiking up a mountain in BC (whole day up & down), I was packing both water and gatorade.  I started off drinking the water first, which was tough going.  My body just felt drained.  Half way up, when I ran outta plain water, I switched to the...

Popular war movies depicting Canadian soldiers ...

Submarine X-1 - James Caan stars as a Canadian midget submarine commander during WW2.  They train and then execute a underwater raid against the German Navy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063655/ I had another in mind, by the title escapes me.

Google Earth has that ability, just go Tools... Measure.  Either a Line or Path.  I use Path alot to measure out how distances I've run.

    Google Earth...WOW!!!

Further down there's a pair of A-10s, and a few others (F-16s?).  And an AWACS just to the east.

    Heavy Gunners

Quagmire was probably right.  Most likely lugging around a C6.  Which is quite a bit heavier around 25+ lbs, than the C7 which is about 8lbs.

    A-10 In Big Demand

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-10 I believe the A-10 started as a USAF need during the Cold War in the late 60's.  Duey, good point.  Even though it operates from rough airstrips, it still needs an airstrip.  Where as an Apaches can be delpoyed from forward operating bases. It's funny to see...

    A-10 In Big Demand

Not that it'd happen in a million years, for a million reasons, but why not move A-10's from Air Force to Army?  They would be a highly prized by the Army.  The Marines are already an example of a branch that has both infantry level through to fixed wing.  But not gonna happen! Unfortunately...

    A-10 In Big Demand

Awesome!  I didn't know about the A-10C program.  From reading up on it, is it just an electronic/software upgrade of existing A-10 airframes?

    A-10 In Big Demand

Does anyone else see this as a gap in capability?  It seems like because the A-10 is such a rugged plane, it's filling in a niche that no other plane can.  When the USAF does finally get rid of the ole Warthog, I'm sure there'll be alot of people on the ground who will miss it.  The F-16 is a...

    running: treadmill or outside?

Take it outside.  I started on the treadmill toget the ball rolling and build up my cardio.  But I switched now to only outdoors.  Initially I wasn't getting anywhere the same performance.  Maybe todo with the fact that when you're on a treadmill, your body can just get in a very specific cycle...
