Questions From Civilians on Canadian Leopard C2 Tanks in Afghanistan

Was reading about the TUSK upgrade and was wondering if our VEH still had the 'new' idea of a tank-infantry phone....  thought our older versions and even the cougars had that already.  Seems the Yanks are catching up to us again....

    kiowa armament

Just me, or once again are we seeing a loss of capability by replacing two birds with one?  Is the Griffon all it was to replace?

Should Canada adopt the LAV III (AKA: Stryker) as its primary armoured vehicle family?

An example of how our forces have lost experience by not having a capability for even a short 'interim' period is our subs...  Lack of practising the skills has lead to one tragedy just trying to get the boats home.  Now we are just starting to redeploy again.  Talking to a former naval officer...

    Preparing for Iraq

The concept that we are JUST learning that there is no 'rear-area' makes me a little sad.  Looking back at a show regarding Vietnam the other day, I noticed that the US troops escorting convoys had developed gun trucks (some with some serious firepower in the way of quad .50s, etc...) as a...

Should Canada adopt the LAV III (AKA: Stryker) as its primary armoured vehicle family?

Interesting article in that it provides SOME feedback from the troops on the ground....  Go figure, an AFV getting hot in the desert!  I cooked a couple of radios in suffield on a warm day too.  Should have requested AC for my Iltis, eh?

    Armoured Crewman Weapons

Gotta love a comment like that!!!  Reminds me of golfing with a buddy of mine who may have spent too much time in a tank....  Drove his ball straight into the side of the hill.... left a nice big scar too and then richocheted up, over and into the lake....  Turned to me and said a sabot round...

Vandals hit Fan Fest military displays

I was talking to my father about the state of education in Canada regarding the military history just the other day.  As a retired teacher, he mentioned that he was 'not-quite' actively discouraged from teaching Canadian history by some of the admin types he dealt with.  It was OK to teach about...

    Armoured Crewman Weapons

I thought that the newer version of the C-8 out there now had been given a heavier barrel, and/or the M-4 from the southern neighbours had a heavier than before barrel....  Or is this 'improvement' still not enough to actually improve the weapon?

    Light Armoured Regt 1970‘s

Does anyone have anymore info or sites that would have info on stuff like the Fennek?  My latest copy of Jane's AFV is a little out of date! The Fennek strikes me as a reasonable veh for 'light' recce.  From the guys I have talked to, the Coyote seems too big for its job (but yes, it does bring...

    Armoured Crewman Weapons

While I have fired a couple of MP5's, they were both police models (one RCMP and the other local city).  The RCMP one was, as issued and fired, NOT able to fire in Full Automatic.  Something about it being an embassy guard model....  too long ago to remember all the details.  The city one was...

    Reserve Armour Officer Cadets

The way my old Sgt Maj explained to me was to aim for second place.  First meant you were too much of a suick-up.  2nd place meant you had done your homework, and worked hard, without the extra attention. Best of luck on your course!!! (and may you come in second!)

    What to do....

My vote (and what I did myself) was to inform them with 60 days notice.  I let them arm twist me for another 30, but then trans to the SHR. Even though it may be the P Res, it is still a job, and due notice is proper, respectful, and shouldn't put you out too much.  Besides, with notice, they...

    SHR time lines

Does anyone know what the time line is for someone on the SHR?  I have heard 10 years, and am just coming on to 9 this fall.  However, I did not get my 'check-in' papers last year....  Does that mean I am off the list?? Thanks in advance!
