I've never seen the M, the 'L' however is for 'Leadership'.  NCM's have 'R' in front of their course numbers for 'Recruit'.  The official name of my BMQ course, for example, was R0xxxE,  Recruit course, 0xxx course serial, English. (the x's being your course number).

As a slight subject shifter, though still on topic, why is it that you require a civvi drivers license for MedTech? The only Medical vehicles I've seen around here are LS's, which the 404's qualify you to drive. Is it more related to the experience that comes with having a full drivers license...
