...and we are back to normal. Thanks for playing everyone! :)
For those who missed it, visiting Army.ca would play a buzzing sound after ~12 seconds. The hope was folks would be checking their phones for messages that were never there.
Evil, but I'm OK with it. :)
In the menu bar at the top, there should be an entry called "What's New" and clicking on that will take you to a page showing all that is new/unseen on the site. There's even a line that divides what's new since your last visit and what's "unseen" prior to that:
The new format takes a...
The old Navy.ca and Air-Force.ca themes are back. I am certain some tweaking will still be needed but they are mostly set and ready to go. You can change styles by clicking on the "Default style" link on the lower left of every page, or use this link to go directly to the style selector...
Re: quote timestamps
Looks like that's not an option, the closest is to click on the arrow next to the quoted user's name to go to the original post. I've made a request of the XenForo devs to consider adding it. No idea if it will make the cut.
Thanks Malcolm, I think it's a problem with the Google Adsense code... previously I had been using Display Ads, and it worked pretty well. Automatically inserted a few ads here and there. With XenForo, it seems to have gone nuts, inserting ads all over the place and consuming nearly all viewable...
An ad blocker should work, but won't be available for mobile users (which are an increasingly high proportion of our users).
For now, I've relegated ads to unregistered users: Log in, no ads.
I'll see how that plays for a bit while I try to work out the issue with the ad placement.
I have, for now, completely disabled ads. I like it, but in recent years, the site has largely sustained itself on ad revenue.
I do not want to pressure users to “pay to play.” The whole point in my view is the site should be free for all, with the option to support via subscriptions (upgrades)...
Ok, I may have slowed down the rampaging ads. Odd, I have not changed a thing wrt advertising since we went live on Christmas Eve with the new site. I suspect Google is just getting more aggressive with the inserts. I'll see if I can scale it back to something reasonable... if not I may have to...
Is it asking for the 2FA/MFA code every time too? I’ve managed to stay logged in across multiple devices so far. Are you online when it “forgets” you or does it occur when coming back to the site after being away for a bit?
I may be able to make the text box for new posts lighter, but have to...
Unfortunately the ability to ignore boards is something we lost in the migration.
This should be "better" now in that anyone who was set to UTC is now set to Eastern timezone. You'll have to adjust off that.
