Divining the right role, capabilities, structure, and Regimental System for Canada's Army Reserves

I don't see how wedding light battalions to PRes brigades will improve the readiness of what should be the most quickly deployable battalions in the army.

    Army Reserve Restructuring

If the requirement were legitimate, it probably would have been resourced. If the capability requirement were legitimate, we would probably ask Reg F battalions to generate the soldiers who were both rifleman & specialist. It suggests we are okay with capability failure by our asking the...

How does one earn the sapper bomb

It’s a flaming grenade. If you are a qualified Combat Engineer, nobody will question your legitimacy in having it.

    Navy to consider gender-neutral ranks

As an aside, what are the chances that (when this does get pushed to proper approval paths) the government allows changes to Seaman without also demanding changes to Guardsman, Rifleman, and Craftsman?

    Navy to consider gender-neutral ranks

There are exceptions that the PEO recognizes including train operators, stationary engineers, and the federal government. In fact, all provincial associations recognize an exemption for the federal government.  As long as the Army can get away with “combat engineer”, other technical trades will...

    All things Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Okay, if your anecdotes about illness on operations and water remediation in Kandahar were supposed to be references to bad policies, then they failed to actually discuss policy.  The stuff you post now is policy, but a red herring. So what if the government has got other policies wrong? There...

Did you check any of the studies that article directly linked to? Despite not being able to run studies with control groups, there is evidence: https://www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMc2007800 https://academic.oup.com/jtm/article/27/3/taaa056/5822103 https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.03444...

    All things Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)

Consider that it is not about you. Everyone in their own arrogance assumes they are healthy until they are symptomatic, and by that time they have already been a spreader. You not wearing a mask for factors solely based on impacts to yourself is wantonly inconsiderate of everyone who will share...

Yes.  I see that now too. Anyway, this site's wiki has been a little difficult for me over the last few months so I've loaded my library to the parent (which leaves the files still accessible to the local wiki).  If you need a map symbol, it might be here...

Helicopter working with HMCS Fredericton missing?

As stated above and noted in the media, the CAF will continue to fly the fleet where necessary. I would suspect that the language used allows specific delegated lower commanders to decide what is necessary.

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

So, were missile and rocket launchers previously accessible to Canadians?  I feel the munitions generally would have already been covered under the Explosives Act and both the missiles and the launchers themselves under the Defence Production Act, but maybe I am missing something here.

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

No.  The terminology does draw on the distinction between full powered cartridges and intermediate powered, because it is that distinction that makes the assault rifle capable of controlled automatic fire.  But it is not derived from US military terminology.  Ian Hogg is a British historian, and...

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Why would the RCEME school refer to a fully automatic capable rifle as a semi-automatic firearm? As for a reference that defines assault rifles as being fully automatic capable, check any number of books by Ian Hogg to include: https://www.amazon.com/Story-Gun-Ian-V-Hogg/dp/031214895X/...

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Actually, assault rifles are a thing.  Assault rifles are fully automatic capable rifles which fire a sub-powered rifle ammunition.  Assault rifles are already prohibited weapons in Canada. By contrast, "assault-style rifle" and "assault weapon" are meaningless terms.
