Majority of Canadians not interested in joining the CAF

It is a similar story for me, I joined knowing that a pension was the end goal. I didn't want to be like the people I saw around my local area who worked into their 70s, not because they loved the work, but because they couldn't afford to retire. I get the impression that the CAF has tried the...

I was told that details are being held in tight control, as leaks have caused the entire process to derail before.

Acting Chief of Military Personnel on Diversity, Inclusion, and Culture Change Short-Term Initiatives

A friend of mine had the same experience, he was turned down for a couple of things he volunteered for because as a straight white male he wasn't "diverse" enough. I had a sense they didn't want people like me, so didn't even bother to waste the effort to write the email to volunteer.

Fair point, though it was me that you were quoting. My lived experience is as valid as any other persons, so I will continue to express my opinions based on my experiences. You're right though, we need to look beyond individual experiences, and assess the broader impact. Based on the feedback...

There is no need to fear, none of us have any say in how this will unfold. To steal a quote from a cinematic masterpiece: Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan : How can you sleep at a time like this? Herger the Joyous : The All-Father wove the skein of your life a long time ago. Go and hide in a hole if you...

You're assuming that religious organizations don't mandate counselling courses for their ordained members, and ordination in whichever religion a chaplain represents is a requirement to become a chaplain. We all have biases, and lived experiences. I have never seen a chaplain laugh in the face...

The report authors were smart enough to not write that... The report read to me like a brainstorming session typed up as a document.

I also think there should be uniformed social workers, but I would prefer to see them working alongside Chaplains. As much as you or I, may not have spiritual beliefs, there are others that do, and they deserve support. If communion/smudging/prayers before battle helps some of the troops...

While the topics you mention are all likely far more important for recruitment and retention, talk does have an impact as well. If you get the impression from an official report that your religion is no longer considered "acceptable" by the CAF, it could be the final thing that drives you out...

The West coast has been going hard as well, but even with that some people end up not deploying through no fault of their own. While I was out West I deployed multiple times, while during the same period a buddy of mine posted to a different ship sailed a lot, but never left the West coast of...

Majority of Canadians not interested in joining the CAF

I suspect you'll find that the member has never actually been on compassionate status, and has just been accommodated based on the "he's a good guy", or "I've known him for years" system... I know of people in my trade who held up positions wasting space simply because their supervisors wouldn't...

You're right, which means they are pretty much incapable of attacking Ukraine in an effective way. That means Ukraine only has to have a relatively small number of forces in the region to make at attack from Transnistria unappealing, as the Russians don't have large numbers in Transnistria. If...

    Ukraine - Superthread

Transnistria has 20-25K troops of it's own as well as the Russians there. Why would Ukraine want to add another front to the war? Ukraine just needs to keep enough troops in the area to make an attack unappealing, which is less troops than would be required to attack, and hold hostile foreign...

Quick question, if it was 4 UNB, Dal, SFU, etc., students who died in a single vehicle incident at 2 am, would anyone be explaining it away rather than assuming the obvious?

Bear in mind that crappy little podunk towns like Edmonton, Calgary, Quebec, Halifax, Victoria, Ottawa, etc.. exist outside the three main urban areas as well. There is a world of difference between Edmonton, and Oromocto when it comes to employment opportunities for a spouse. The Ontario idea...

Who is moving there, 18 year old's, or 55 year old's who sold a house in Toronto and want a slower pace of life? We need to find a way to make being in less "boring" for city folks, or we we be stuck recruiting from a dwindling pool of undesirable white males looking for work.
