Dealing with being home from Kandahar

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone.  Much appreciated. I guess I should have included where life has taken me in my update as well; you could pretty much say I've successfully transition into a civilian career.  I am currently employed as a Weapons Technologist (Mechanical Engineering...

Dealing with being home from Kandahar

Just a quick update; It has been 7 years, 7 months, and 26 days since being wounded by friendly fire in Afghanistan, and, as of 30 APR 14, I am no longer a member of the Canadian Forces. I have been released as per article 15.01 of the Queen's Regulations and Orders, item 3(b), which states...

What's the dumbest thing you heard said today?

Though I agree that the "hot bench" lawsuit above may be a bit silly, the hot coffee at McDonalds lawsuit really wasn't... it was portrayed as frivolous by media and McDonalds, as one would expect to get hot coffee when one orders hot coffee, but coffee served at 190 degrees Fahrenheit is a...

I thought the classic line was; "we put a man on the moon..."

    Joseph Kony 2012

Interesting rebuttal to the Visible Children blog... there's way too much to quote; just watch and be amazed. I'm pretty sure this guy has no idea how conflicts actually work... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8431706/kony-2012-filmmakers-respond-to-criticism

    "Worst Movie Of All Time"

To be fair, I was doing homework at the same time... had it on as 'background' noise...  but it was too horrible to ignore; like a train wreck. I would say it was time I'll never get back, but I was partially using it to do productive work. As for Cop Out; got about 10 min in to it and had to...

    "Worst Movie Of All Time"

New contender: Stonehenge Apocalypse.  (don't ask my why I actually watched it... the name alone was almost a deterrent) Just reading through the IMDB page, there's an interesting list of errors; I would add to that; Trying to pass off an old Iltis as a modern British military vehicle.

Voluntary Release while on P Cat questions

Have you been in contact with the JPSU / IPSC?  There are several back-to-work opportunities you can take advantage of while awaiting a Medical Release, not to mention the SISIP back-to-work programs offered upon a medical release. (I'm in kind of the same boat). If you VR, you may lose a lot...

    Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation: 1PPCLI, 1RCR & 3R22eR

By the way; here's an article about 1 PPCLI getting theirs.  :salute: http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lfwa/feature_1ppcli_commendation.asp There's also a bunch of pictures to go with it; http://www.flickr.com/photos/lfwapao/sets/72157625389477253/ Good on 'em...  well deserved.

    Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation: 1PPCLI, 1RCR & 3R22eR

I wonder if this information is going to (officially) find it's way down to the reservists who were part of the 1 RCR BG.

    Commander-in-Chief Unit Commendation: 1PPCLI, 1RCR & 3R22eR

The lastest from the rumour net says the date for the presentation parade for the 1 RCR BG (TF3-06) is 24 FEB '11...  can anyone confirm this?

Roy Green: An opportunity to honour reservists

Well... to be fair, the education reimbursement (50% up to $2000 per year) is available to all reservists (pending completion of BMQ and good attendance), injured or not...  so, in reality, there is no program to assist injured reservists.

Roy Green: An opportunity to honour reservists

Just a quick correction to my post; apparently, the 100% sponsorship is only available to regular force members who have been injured.... reservists, injured or otherwise, are only entitled to the 50% up to $2000 per year ($8000 lifetime max).  I got my hopes up for nothing... again...  :(

Roy Green: An opportunity to honour reservists

Well... Somthing like what is being suggested is being offered to Reservists who have been injured overseas.  In the latest incarnation of the Education Reimbursement - Primary Reserve program (or a related program), PRes members taking part in an education upgrade for a back-to-work program due...

    Hiab on HLVW

I had actually considered that... two possible safety precautions; 1) a bunker allowing it to only traverse in the direction of the target; 2) a very short teaser belt. After first envisioning this contraption, I had a mental image of a new definition for a runaway gun...  ;D

    Hiab on HLVW

The issue I first had was not knowing the manufacturer or model of the crane..  Now that I know who and what, all the other information will be easy to get from the company (or should be at least).  There's even an Palfinger office in Niagra Falls, On... only a few hours from home. But, with...

    Hiab on HLVW

I suppose..  But it does lead to some misinformation Either way, I can't seem to find any information about any of the models you listed on the Palfinger website...  But, I've just started searching.  I may just contact them directly. Cheers.

    Hiab on HLVW

Interesting.  Why does everyone call it a Hiab? This is a big chunk of the info I was looking for though.  Thanks a lot.

    Hiab on HLVW

Yes, pictures would be very very useful. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of info stenciled all over the base / hydraulic unit of the arm as well as on the remote control unit. Besides that, pictures of the mounting assembly and the armature itself would be immensely useful.  If anyone here...

    Hiab on HLVW

I have been to the company's website; I posted a link to it in the original message. And I plan on using them as a resources. Unfortunately, I have no idea what model is used on the HLVW; since I have no access to an HLVW without driving an hour to London and talking to TN there, I have no way...
