Ricks Napkin Forces Challenge Part 2 BIG Numbers

@Kirkhill you notice in my napki scenarios, I always insist on changing the political situation, otherwise it feels like its pure wishing (well, actually this is)
I await your submission

There are foundational differences between CAF and US military employment that would render this a non starter.
The newly elected majority government just changed the rules.

But if forced to maintain a standing military then I'd go very heavy on regular force Air/Sea power to protect our large expanses of coastline/waters and airspace. With the numbers and ability to support allied expeditionary forces.

For the ground force, I'd go light on regs and heavy on reserves. It would not be expeditionary, but rather home defence focused. And you can get creative with that.

Oh now I need to dig out my Napkin Army again...

@KevinB serious question. With such proliferation of drones in every size, is old school infantry recce patrols even possible without 100% compromising and en arty/air assets zeroing in?
Yes, but it can be painfully slow, and in some areas, you will just need to wave off and ether have your forces sweep the enemy UAS away first, or settle for your own UAS Recce in some places.

Interesting. Heavy emphasis on ISTAR and SOF capabilities.

Would a Mountain Ops Cadre (like the Royal Marines have?) make sense for the CA? Like permanent dedicated, ready to go mountain troops

For my train of thought, I would love to see a serious expansion of artillery. Especially HIMARS, Any sort of coastal anti-ship missile systems and lets get real about air defence, we have alot of air space. With modern stealth aircraft and drones that could probably sneak into the nation virtually undetected, its a concern.

I think they offer some needed requirements.

I’m still rebuilding the Army.

Right now I’m using 3 full reg force Bde’s (1 Para, 1 Light and 1 Armored) a few 30-70 and a bunch of 10/90 formations, then some 100% PRes. With the goal of having a younger Reg Force - and a lot of post Reg Force Reservists.

1 Armor DIV and 1 Light DIV for a 1Cdn Corps (who is CCA during Peacetime) but setup to expand to a three Corps Army in Wartime.

I briefly toyed with an Amphibious Bde on both coasts, but couldn’t find the PY’s in the RCN to do what I wanted with it.

Okay now for my Army

Gonna dive more into this. I gotta get night chores done first.

Here's my two div napkin model I'm presently playing with from the Artillery thread.

CA Two Div model

As stated at the link - it's based on current authorized RegF and ResF numbers and only partially equipped based on current equipment holdings.

In an expanded funding world, 1 Div would be equipped with new tanks, IFVs and SPs. I tend to stay equipment agnostic for these things but believe in common fleets with a secure Factory base - that tends to get me looking US. For tanks I'm thinking Abrams-X, For artillery M109-52, for IFV Bradleys until something better comes along - something better could be CV-90 or K21 Redback if manufacturing could come onshore.

As that equipment comes on line, all LAV series equipment from 1 Div (roughly 4 bns worth) gets transferred to 2 Div to fill out it's mech battalions. 2 Div artillery is an issue. Currently they get all the army's M777s which is not enough for three regiments. C3s and LG1s fill out the bulk. If more M777s become available I'd round them up to 54 guns but if not I'd consider going to three regiments with two gun batteries (one LG1, one M777) of three 3-gun troops each. (27 x LG1 and 27 x M777 total) The third battery would be equipped with OWUAV launchers and STA.

🍻
