Marines want slow-down in deployment of IED-resistant vehicles

word that. people forget - when u get new vehicles, you gotta get new parts, training on maintaining them, training on auto-body/reparing them, training on driving them... and to be honest with you, most of these 'ied-resilient' vehicles fail miserably.  didn't some canadian soldiers die this...

Marines want slow-down in deployment of IED-resistant vehicles

i see the argument. i'd rather be in a zippy vehicle going 30mph around neighborhoods doing my patrols... than sit inside a big hulk of a tank, going 5mph, having insurgents and kids laughing and pointing at me as they can run faster than my flintstonemobile. if you just want to sit inside a...

"A military can only fight well on behalf of a society in which it believes..."

I'm gonna assume because the brass that runs the Canadian Army, is made up of top quality people who spend a lot of time ensuring it's competence in design, training and execution.  Ensuring top-notch in everything they do.  Which is why i have a lot of respect for the CF. Problem in the US...

Marines want slow-down in deployment of IED-resistant vehicles

there's so much politics, backroom financial deals, and political wrangling about all these contracts, it's crazy. r

It appears the Marines will be vindicated against false charges.

i feel sorry for anyone going through high-profile military trials. Not only do you always have fewer rights, in a system designed against you -- but you can't ignore politics and outside pressure in these trials. I almost spent 10 days in a clink for something I didn't even do, once -- but...

Marines want slow-down in deployment of IED-resistant vehicles

Most new armor bad boys i've seen so far - have all failed miserably when tested in duty.  And new reports out of iraq - they're all failing big time.  They're about as safe as those new dragon body armors. How they handle in the field, and how they handle in a controlled lab is usually way...

If You Haven’t Gone To War — You’re About To

This article makes it look like it's so simple and easy. Logistics in deploying is so complicated.  We got people here who WANT to go - and they're stuck on a list. Who goes and who doesn't is a very complicated drawn-out process.  Maybe some officer can describe the whole process. It's not...

Lebanese immigrant in USMC guilty of citizenship fraud

USMC can't do anything until she's PROVEN guilty. Or people forgetting how justice works again?  Military brass won't do anything, until civil authorities are done with a case.  Trust me on that. And if you're not a private - you really got to f up before they take you to the cleaners.  I've...

Top Marine suggests Marines be the prime force in Afghanistan

Iraq is where the majority of bloodshed, fighting and terrorists are.  His comments on why they should be in afghan not iraq makes no sense. r

"A military can only fight well on behalf of a society in which it believes..."

when you join the us military - you leave society, and your civilian mindset BEHIND.  They spend a lot of time focusing on that in boot camp. They're both mutually exclusive. Hence the terms civilian, and service member. r

    Reaction to Gen Patraeus

That's okay.  I'm shipping out for deployment in 5 days.  I'll be back in April (should!) r

    Reaction to Gen Patraeus

why?  because they don't have oil? We have troops in Bosnia last time I checked.  We even went to Somalia.  We have troops in the horns of Africa.  We have troops in Japan, Cuba, Germany, Korea.  Our navy is out fighting pirates in far away oceans and drug smugglers off mexico.  Few years ago...

    Reaction to Gen Patraeus

im at the bottom of the food chain.  it could just be over-anxious kid soldiers.  But usually there's some truth to it.  I guess if we are mobilized, i doubt i'll have the ability to post here about it.  lol.  It would make sense though. i need to hurry up and do my airborne and ranger school...

    Reaction to Gen Patraeus

I am on a crappy laptop with sticky keys.  Real annoying.  Remind me not to buy DELL. I wonder if my cell is gonna ring anytime soon, and be mobilized for Myanmar.  It's the hot topic in the rumor mill on army bases right now.  That would be cool.  My unit already served in Bosnia and is...

    Reaction to Gen Patraeus

Nice try at discrediting a GENERAL.  He was a GENERAL.  Case closed. Rumsfeld was a POLITICIAN telling a GENERAL how to run a war.  We saw how well that worked out. Now Bush wants to 'listen to the GENERALs on the ground'.  Um, okay. Google Shineski.  Military, Political and Historian...
