Component Transfer (CT) - Regular to Reserve [MERGED]

The rule is that you have to be trade qualified to CT from the Regular to Reserve Force. This information comes directly from the release secion and the PSO at CFB Winnipeg. I know it sucks, but the only option seems to be release from the Reg Force and then apply to the Reserves when you get...

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

You don't do any aircrew training before going to basic. The only pre-requisite for the ACSO trade is passing the Nav written test.

    Air Navigators

There's no way you would be pushed into a specific squadron because you worked there before. Greenwood, Shearwater, Esquimalt or Trenton are good places for attached postings to if you are interested in UAVs, MH or SAR. Winnipeg is another option, but you'll spend a lot of time here on the ACSO...

    Decent Pilot OJTs

Hey infamous_p, Winnipeg 435 Sqn. OJT-ers are treated like gold and they get to go on a lot of trips up to Alert, Thule Greenland and other places as well as on SAR and air to air refueling trips. As long as you can do OJT in an operational squadron, you should do well. If you like a good night...

    ACSO 00182 Component Transfer

You should have no problem being received mid-course. When I did BMOQ my platoon had little to no sleep and were constantly marching and being "punished", whereas other people I talked to often went to bed in the field around 9 and had the night to themselves. It just depends on how hard your...

    ACSO 00182 Component Transfer

Congratulations on the job offer! After BMOQ you will for sure do OJT before starting at 1 CFFTS. My OJT was only 3 months long, but a few people had to wait longer to start the ACSO course. But don't worry about OJT... my pilot buddies I did BMOQ with are still in St. Jean and are not even on...

    recruiting clarification

Variable initial engagements for pilots are typically 9 years for DEO.

    Advice Needed - CT

You'll be in St. Jean for 3 months, and then in Winnipeg for the ACSO course which lasts just over a year (provided you don't wait too long on OJT before the course). As a Pilot, you'll be in Moose Jaw for a while, so the prairies are unavoidable if you want to be an ACSO or Pilot.

    WOW, moving really fast?

Fall was my favourite... the weather was bearable, and we graduated just before it got too cold.

    Packing for Basic [MERGED]

You will get rid of most of the army stuff (except your rain coat).

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

Your aptitude test will be valid, however, I would write it again if I were you and not rely on the score you got when you were 17.

    May BMOQ?

Look on the bright side of not starting BMOQ in April... you won't be in St-Jean roasting with no a/c in the Mega, or in Farnham boiling in your own sweat with blackflies eating your face while wishing you started in August instead. ;) If you start in August, work on a few OMPE's, and actually...

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

And there are relatively few 2Lt pilots (OJT-ers waiting for BFT or PFT) that I met who were DEO. Most of them are either RMC, ROTP or CEOTP.

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

I went through basic (Aug-Nov 08) with 5 CEOTP pilots in my platoon alone. And there were other CEOTP pilots in other platoons too, so I don't buy the recruiting centre saying "there are only 5 spots open, so you might as not try." If you have a commercial licence, apply for sure. You'll by-pass...
