"And when the day comes that they're on their death bed, all they will have to point to is a life of whining, complaining, hatred, and jealousy."
I would say he has described his own life perfectly...
Well this is messed up...

They may be referring to the Specialist Reserve Officers for units like this:

They may be given rank but from what I understand they don't command troops at all.
I echo the above. I wouldn't go tearing around with too much weight - especially as it sounds like you will be on your DP1 soon.
I'd keep it around 30-40 lbs and if it goes alright increase your speed / distance. Just my £0.02.
Best of luck with DP1 - don't injure yourself first!
I am going through the process now. Here are the steps so far for anyone interested:
Day 1 - Applied online and received confirmation e-mail almost immediately
Day 2 - Received an OUTCAN confirmation e-mail with some basic questions to fill out, which I did
Day 3 - Received an e-mail stating I...
Thanks for the details Humphrey Bogart et al.
For other prospective infantry folks:
I found the most recently published regimental journals of the PPCLI and RCR pretty good resources for a look at life in battalions.
They are also useful at seeing what a career as an officer may entail...
This is pretty big news over here right now:

The Royal Military Police is investigating an allegation that British special forces killed unarmed Afghan civilians, the BBC understands.
The BBC has spoken to one man who says four members of his...
I'm not saying it proves anything. But I think it does speak to what we were talking about earlier in terms of what roles are suitable for SOF vs. line units. I'm not out to argue one way or the other but I think how different nations are approaching these "limited" engagements whether in...

Don't sweat it too much man. I doubt it will be a disqualifying factor and I wouldn't say you screwed up "royally".
If you did well in the rest of the interview I am sure everything will be fine. The interviewer is likely not even thinking about it at all.

I guess it also begs the question - do CANSOFCOM units really need to be the lead on all of the "train, advise, assist" jobs?
I know capacity is more of an issue with 9 infantry battalions, but surely some of the regular battalions could be involved in some way?
I'm sure this has been...
I fought through (with) the tourists with selfie sticks on Canada Day to watch the Patricias march in. Was pretty cool to see! I'm sure I'll see a few dozen Patricias smashing up Soho at some point!
