clip Top Menu Bar on DWAN - quirks mode

August 15, 2014, 11:06:17 by donaldk
Army.ca,

Is there any possibility to modify the DOCTYPE header to "strict" vice "transitional" so DWAN stations stay out of quirks mode?

On Shiplan's IE7/XP and DSB's IE9/W7 the top menu bar shows properly without having to open their F12 developer tools and bringing it off quirks mode manually every time the page is loaded?

Side note, On my own personal computers that run FireFox don't have issues with the menu bar and F12 isn't necessary.  I never used the F12 console especially at work before until MARLANT had issues with its new DWAN page not working on ShipLAN stations and direction came to use F12 as needed.

It currently reads:
Code: [Select]
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
Propose change to:
Code: [Select]
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
See attached PNGs.  Following links have some info about quirks:

David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, reviewed the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI), and the Royal 22e Régiment (R22eR) on Friday, September 19, 2014, during the Sunset Ceremony on the lawns of Parliament Hill, marking the 100th anniversaries of the two regiments.

Former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson also attended, in her role as first Canadian Colonel-in-Chief of the PPCLI.

“As commander-in chief, I’m honoured to be the reviewing officer for such an important parade, which marks a milestone in the history of our two world-renowned Canadian Army Regiments, the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and the Royal 22e Régiment,” said His Excellency. “For the last century, the men and women of these two infantry regiments have protected our country throughout the great world wars and many other conflicts worldwide, and to this day, they are still vigorously defending our rights of justice, freedom and peace. This national recognition is a way for all Canadians to salute their enduring service and commitment to our nation.”

xx Volunteer unpaid Militia idea (split from Reserve role thread)

September 10, 2014, 13:34:34 by Kirkhill
I favour the older system of attesting virtually all-comers.  After they walk through the door and are cleared by the MO slap a beret/balmoral/glen/caubeen on their head, give them a pair of coveralls, a belt and a pair of boots and start them square-bashing.

After a few weeks of regular attendance put them on the Class A rolls and start paying them.

If they sign on for advanced training that would take them into Class B and C territory, potentially operating in support of the the Reserves or the Regs then clear them to the deployable standards of fitness and allowable moral turpitude.

The idea is get the interested into the system and engaged pdq.  At very least you will engage a part of the community and give them some exposure to the CF when they are most receptive.  That will give you a broader base of support in the community (even if it is only at the social club / auxiliary level) as well as developing a pool of attested willing from which the active Reserve and the Regs can be recruited.  You also get a longer period to actually evaluate recruits and determine if they are a fit.

With respect to liability - have the attested sign a waiver recognizing that they are not covered to the same standard as an enrolled soldier and have the CF/DND purchase commercial insurance similar to that purchased by high risk adventure businesses (skiing, parachuting, rafting, climbing etc) to cover loss of life and limb.

The full coverage should only be supplied to Class A,B and C Reserves and Regs under existing regulations.

xx LCol Dan Bobbitt (info needed)

August 25, 2014, 01:08:03 by Warren Layberry
I am looking for information on LCol Dan Bobbitt who passed away on May 14, 2014. He plays a small part in a research project I am working on, and I am trying to flesh out some background information on the man. All I am looking for is a more precise date for his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. In many news reports after his death, it was reported that his promotion to LCol came in 2009. I just wonder if there is a way to narrow it down a bit more than that—even if just to a particular month in 2009. I have banged away at Google for over an hour now, but I can't seem to shake a date loose.

Thanks.

Armyca-Ico Trade switch Post BMQ

August 14, 2014, 14:38:46 by evmaclennan
good afternoon everyone

this morning I accepted a job with the forces for wep tech- land. My question to anyone who can assist - is the only way to switch trades by not completing your trade specific training or by fulfilling your initial contract? My first 2 trade preferences were infantry and combat engineer, I waited approx 600 days since application to job offer due to living out of the country for 6+ months so the process was quite long. I am happy to to a weapon tech if that's my only option, the gentleman who offered me the role requested that I accept or decline the role and would not comment on if the other 2 trades were available in the near future. I dont mean to come off as sounding ungrateful because im not, I Just simply had more interest in the other trades.

thanks in advance guys & girls.
