xx Yes, we are getting chat

April 25, 2016, 15:30:49 by Mike Bobbitt
As some of you may notice, we are now getting a "Facebook style" chat added to the site. As it is still early days, I have not rolled this option out to everyone yet, but have started with Staff, Subscribers, Donors, and senior site members. Basically, most of the folks we can thank for assisting us with the recent site renewal. :)

If things good smoothly I plan to open it up to all users in time (days to maybe a couple of weeks if things go poorly).

There are some issues, but please report anything broken or unpleasant here. In a nutshell, when you are online here, you will be online for chat, but you can mark yourself offline by clicking the gear icon. There are a couple of chat rooms by default, with more to come. You can manage who is on your "friend" or blocked list within your profile:

https://army.ca/forums/index.php?action=profile;area=lists

Users from your buddy list will be listed in chat automatically. I'm sure there will be more questions as we move forward, please post your questions here - or in the chat rooms! :D

Cheers
Mike

icon13 Drill (Parade) in FFO

April 21, 2016, 21:24:56 by Buttons
Hello

Been a silent observer for years, did a search could not find an answer.

My unit is doing a 13-16km parade through the city. CO wants it to be in FFO - cool - except they want to do parade drill with weapons (arms swung 'mag'-pocket high, change arms on the march around canteen/c9 pouches). Personally I think this is going to look horrible as I think soldiers in ffo should carry their weapons like soldiers wearing ffo, and having some long parade experience, I think the troops will just say f*** it by km 5 and just be slack anyway.

Looking for advice on how to disuade this, either doctrinal or logical.

FFO with Helmets vs Scarlet dress already suggests a different posture, I'm suggesting easy march with barrels down to fit the dress better.  Stationary sure, shoulder arms.

xx Domestic deployment in case of national security threat for reservists

March 30, 2016, 03:28:23 by ZKC
In light of the current events in Paris and Brussels, one can only hope such tragedies do not occur in Canada, but if it comes to it, will reservists be locally deployed if their hometown is or was the target of a terrorist attack?

Apologies if this has been previously discussed, I only found threads concerning overseas deployment. Feel free to lock it or move it if it's irrelevant, I'm still learning the rules around here.

xx MP Response to fire - Split from First infantry regular force female LCol.

January 25, 2016, 23:19:11 by MedCorps
She was a VanDoo when she was promoted major in 2007.

She was a Major in R22eR in 2014 when she had a Courts Martial.

Interesting case.  Nice to see that the reprimand did not affect her career.

I have crossed paths with LCol Wellwood on a number of occasions over the past 15 years and she is a good person and will do a great job as a LCol. The RCIC is lucky to have her.

Military Quote
The Destruction and abandonment of the ship was no sudden shock. The disaster had been looming ahead for many months, and I had studied my plans for all contingencies a hundred times...The task now was to secure the saftey of the party, and to that I must bend my energies and mental powers and apply every bit of knowledge that experience of the Antarctic had given me. The task was likely to be long and strenuous, and an ordered mind and a clear program were essential if we were to come through without loss of life.
